Hi lovely MN,
My husband likes Octavia and I like Saskia.

We like the unusual aspect of these 2 names. Both work well with our surname (by the way we are not posh at all Grin)
Just curious to know which out of the two you'd pick?

Unlike Saskia better

MyCatShopsAtAldi · 18/12/2020 11:10

Saskia.

Regularsizedrudy · 18/12/2020 11:10

I like!*

CouldntThinkOfAUsrname · 18/12/2020 11:12

Saskia :)

NeonSparkle · 18/12/2020 11:13

Hate Octavia but I love Saskia

Littlemilkjug · 18/12/2020 11:14

Saskia is gorgeous

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/12/2020 11:17

I love both - great choices OP! If pushed I'd chose Octavia - more classical feeling and I prefer the nn Tay/Tavi to Sas/Sassy.

I don't think you have to be posh to use these names - Saskia is Dutch/German, and Octavia is Roman and Shakespearean (so should be no different to more popular Julia or Ophelia).

Sugaspice · 18/12/2020 11:25

Ah thanks for your feedback Smile and not being harsh!
Really helpful, thank you.
IamnotwhouthinkIam yep we were thinking of Tavi as a possible NN

It's funny because I never considered Octavia but it really has grown on me.
I still warm to Saskia more though

Octavia is a car for me. I'd choose Saskia.

elenacampana · 18/12/2020 11:28

I dislike Saskia the least.

Mylittlepony374 · 18/12/2020 11:31

Octavia is a Skoda car.
Saskia is better.

Maigue · 18/12/2020 11:32

I e always liked Saskia — it seems to be getting pretty popular, if that’s a considération. I do like Octavia, but I also feel it’s an extremely dignified and rather formal name. (Also, I knew one at university, and she was known as Ocky...)

Katgolde · 18/12/2020 11:35

Saskia is nice but Octavia is great.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/12/2020 11:38

Saskia.

FAQs · 18/12/2020 11:41

I know a Sas which is what she is called to shorten it, or sometimes Sassy. Agree Octavia is a car, it might be shorten to Tav.

FAQs · 18/12/2020 11:43

Ocky ocky ocky, oi oi oi (I must get back to work..)

YoniAndGuy · 18/12/2020 12:00

Saskia hands down.

Octavia - a car, short form Tav, Occy (!), quite prim, bit clunky.

Saskia - far prettier, short form Sass, Sassie, still fairly unusual but more familiar than Octavia.

Octavia is one of those classic names that when you really LOOK at it you can see why it's just never been popular. It doesn't actually make a very nice sound and it's not very user-friendly.

YoniAndGuy · 18/12/2020 12:01

Antonia is a better alternative to Octavia.

But I'd still go for Saskia - it's a really pretty name, but still strong and characterful.

Chilldonaldchill · 18/12/2020 12:20

I think Octavia sounds quite posh if I'm honest. I don't dislike that about it though.
Saskia feels quite different to me.
I quite like them both though - I don't think I could pick between them.
I think names that are similar (but I personally prefer) would be:
Cecilia
Cordelia
Antonia

QueenOfJammyDodgers · 18/12/2020 12:40

Saskia

JanewaysBun · 18/12/2020 12:41

Ooh both nice!
I'd Go for saskia personally

Sugaspice · 18/12/2020 13:37

Thanks everyone.
Well the car thing has been mentioned a few times and it's a good point. I wouldn't have associated it with a car make but I can't forget this now.

So Saskia wins (I think!)

These are both fabulous! 💚 Great choices OP.

WellTidy · 18/12/2020 18:04

Saskia, hands down.

CutiePatootie01 · 18/12/2020 18:12

Saskia sounds like a Russian mail-order bride.

Octavia is a bit pretentious-wank but better than Saskia.
