What do you think? DP thinks of Indiana Jones but it seems quite feminine to me with 'Anna' on the end.

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2020 18:39

Yes, I think it’s a female name, even with Indiana Jones.

frankie246 · 10/12/2020 18:42

My female cat is called that.

Knittedfairies · 10/12/2020 18:43

A female name for sure; Indiana Jones' 'real' name was Henry - so it was a nickname.

WisestIsShe · 10/12/2020 18:43

I'd think of Indiana Jones, but I am old. Then again when I type Indiana the keyboard predicts the next word is Jones!

bitheby · 10/12/2020 18:44

It's a State and it means Land of the Indians according to Wikipedia. I don't think I'd use it as a name unless there is a connection to the place.

Misandrylovescompany · 10/12/2020 18:45

Perhaps Surrey or Gloucestershire instead ?

LynetteScavo · 10/12/2020 18:45

The only person I know called Indiana is female.

JewelTheft · 10/12/2020 18:45

I know a girl and a boy Indiana, both known as Indie / indy. So it doesn't seem specifically one or the other to me.

Packlunchhell · 10/12/2020 18:45

Girls name definitely , I know 3 with this name .

Vaughan32 · 10/12/2020 18:46

It's not really either, but if it had to be used for a person, it would be a girl. That's probably why Indiana Jones a) was known as Indy, and b) learned to be handy with the whip, to discourage mockery. If he had been named Ian instead perhaps he would have settled down to a career in accountancy.

Europilgrim · 10/12/2020 18:46

Neither?

Bummsbet · 10/12/2020 18:50

Indiana was his nickname. After their female dog. His name was Henry.

riotlady · 10/12/2020 18:51

I would think male like Indiana Jones.
I grew up with a girl called Arizona though

luckymagnoliatree · 10/12/2020 19:01

I know one little girl called Indiana, I don't know any boys called it.

FourPlatinumRings · 10/12/2020 19:03

I'd have said unisex. I imagine a little boy with long blonde hair.

toomanyplants · 10/12/2020 19:04

@frankie246 I had a male cat called Indiana (Indy) !!

UserEleventyNine · 10/12/2020 19:06

They called the dog Indiana. Whenever Last Crusade is on the telly, someone in the playground will think it's hilarious to tell your child s/he is named after a dog, whether s/he is a boy or girl.

Firebird83 · 10/12/2020 19:07

Agree with @bitheby

FlowerTink · 10/12/2020 19:07

I know 3 girls with this name (primary age)

AuntieStella · 10/12/2020 19:08

Jones - so a whipcracking boy

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/12/2020 19:21

I'd say girl.

IndieTara · 10/12/2020 19:21

I called my dog Indiana. A boy

Nell96 · 10/12/2020 19:29

It's a US State - not keen on it as a name, but if you want to use it I'd say it sounds more feminine to me.

AriesTheRam · 10/12/2020 19:43

Girl 100%

florascotia2 · 10/12/2020 20:10

A US state with a tragic history of wars and oppression and genocide. Why would anyone want to call a boy or a girl after that?

The Indiana of Indiana Jones movies was a nickname. His given name was Dr Henry Walton Jones. He was fictional, of course.
