What do you think? DP thinks of Indiana Jones but it seems quite feminine to me with 'Anna' on the end.

Indiana. It's a bit of a shithole and Gary, Indiana is one of the most dangerous cities in the United States.
That's your fun fact of the day brought to you by a born and bred 'merican.

lemonsquashie · 10/12/2020 21:57

Neither. Sorry: it's a state in the USA. It would be like calling your baby Texas or Michigan

CherryPavlova · 10/12/2020 22:04

It’s a state in USA.
Jennifer, Cressida, Phoebe, Artemis and Candida are girls names.

WillingWarlock · 10/12/2020 22:06

The only one I know is a boy

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/12/2020 22:22

@cherryPavlova. Those names are girls names everywhere aren’t they. Confused
Did you mean boys names

june2007 · 10/12/2020 22:26

Indiana Jones was named after the dog, but I presume that was male. I think of it as a boys name and like it despite not normally liking place names. (But if means lord of the indians again thats male.)

No, intended to be girls names. Ordinary, everyday girls names.
Boys have different names. Hugo, Ranulph, Christopher, Oliver. Ordinary boys names.

Indiana is not a real name.

CorianderQueen · 10/12/2020 22:38

Female, most names ending in -a feel female.

HopeClearwater · 10/12/2020 22:40

@CherryPavlova yeah and Candida is also a fungal infection Smile

HopeClearwater · 10/12/2020 22:41

Oldham. How about Oldham. That’s a dump too. I think it sounds like a boy’s name though.

CherryPavlova · 10/12/2020 22:45

Gosh, how clever to know that.

The girls name predates the fungal infection name. It’s from the Latin Candidus. Pure or white, honesty, snowy depending on text being translated.

june2007 · 10/12/2020 22:45

Well I have heard of Chester, Devon leicester and London so why not Oldham?

Pipandmum · 10/12/2020 22:51

Girl

Mrsfrumble · 10/12/2020 22:52

It’s the titular heroine of quite a famous novel by George Sand, published in the 19th century. So definitely a girl’s name.

Honeyroar · 10/12/2020 22:53

I studied Italian so anything ending in A is female in my book! But really it’s a place name.

Inkpaperstars · 11/12/2020 04:08

Girl's name, but at a push could use for either.

Inkpaperstars · 11/12/2020 04:08

Ps have also seen Indyana for a girl

isawthat · 11/12/2020 04:09

I only know girls called Indiana

MercyBodle · 11/12/2020 05:10

As a place name it's unisex. If I saw it in writing I'd ask whether it was a boy or a girl.

HeronLanyon · 11/12/2020 05:18

I (U.K.) have lived in Indiana. Wouldn’t even consider using it as a name. It’s a State.
Have never met an Indiana.
If I heard it as a first name I’d assume a girl despite Indiana Jones.

mathanxiety · 11/12/2020 06:20

It's an American state with unsavoury parts that you can smell before you see.

Ylfa · 11/12/2020 15:57

@lemonsquashie

Neither. Sorry: it's a state in the USA. It would be like calling your baby Texas or Michigan
I had a great great aunt called Texas, she was one of about a million siblings all given southern/south east place names. She was about 4’10 so unfortunately never grew into such a big name 😀
Carouselfish · 11/12/2020 22:59

vote boy. I know one.

florascotia2 · 12/12/2020 17:59

OP As I am sure you will have seen, Indiana is the US state that seems to want to collaborate with Trump in an utterly ghastly and sadistic last-minute execution spree.
Any ruler who seeks to enhance his prestige by killing people - yes, they are criminals but many of their convictions are deeply , deeply suspect - is worth nothing but the deepest contempt.

pence land.
Trump will surely burn in hell for what he is doing right now.
Absolutely disgusting and shocking.
