Florence or Maisie?

DP and I have narrowed down girls names to two; I picked one, he picked the other but we agree that we love both! We have stuck to these two for weeks and never come closer to a decision.
Please help me choose between them. It's important to me it has Pearl in.

Florence Pearl Mills
Maisie Rose Mills (Maisie means Pearl)

If baby is a boy he'll be called George.

They are both such pretty names but I would vote Maisie out of the two.

sophs29 · 08/12/2020 15:34

Maisie is lovely!

vincettenoir · 08/12/2020 15:40

I like them both but prefer Florence. But that is because I love Italy. My daughter has an Italian name and is mad on pasta.

MrsBeltane · 08/12/2020 15:40

I prefer Florence, lovely name that crosses all generations.

Fredisbest · 08/12/2020 15:47

I like both but I absolutely love Pearl! Why not just Pearl?

gretagreengrapes · 08/12/2020 16:11

@fredisbest DP is not a fan, but also I'm not sure it goes with the surname on it's own as she would be on a register at school etc. Maybe I've just said it so many times it's stopped making sense!

50/50 on the other votes so far.

I would vote Florence but I think Pearl Mills is too much of a mouthful and Maisie Mills is a bit twee.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 08/12/2020 16:39

Florence sounds more elegant and adult imo. While I like May as a first name, Maisie as a given name sounds a bit cute and nicknamey to me (I think it was originally a nn for Margaret).

Twizbe · 08/12/2020 16:40

Florence for sure. That name will grow with her. Maisie sounds little girl like and she won't be little forever

SirVixofVixHall · 08/12/2020 16:41

I agree Florence. Maisie is a pet name, and I think it is a bit twee as pp has said. Florence much more elegant.

ILikeStrongTea · 08/12/2020 16:41

Maisie to me isn’t a proper name, it’s too cutsie and twee.

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 08/12/2020 17:15

I love Florence

exLtEveDallas · 08/12/2020 17:21

I prefer Maisie. I only like Florence in a French accent (and hate the nickname Flo)

RuthW · 08/12/2020 18:14

Florence. Maisie is too nicknamy

OffredOfjune · 08/12/2020 18:25

Florence is lovely! Don't like Maisie at all, and with the surname, it sounds more like a cartoon character.

daisypond · 08/12/2020 18:27

Florence. Maisie is twee. Fine as a nickname for Margaret.

calimommy · 08/12/2020 18:57

Florence Rose Mills 👌

Maisie is sweet but a child's name. Florence is both child and adult.

CheshireDing · 08/12/2020 19:36

Florence

Maisie mills sounds silly

butterry · 08/12/2020 19:39

Florence sounds quite classic whereas I can't imagine an adult called Maisie, it sounds more like a nickname

VanityWitch · 08/12/2020 19:40

Florence!

Maisie is horrid imo (sorry).

Lobsterquadrille2 · 08/12/2020 19:46

Florence, for the reasons PPs have given. Florence Mills is elegant.

gretagreengrapes · 08/12/2020 19:48

Interesting, I do understand what people mean about 'children's' names however I went to school with a Maisie who is now an adult so maybe a name grows with you.

Florence was my pick of the two.

@Lobsterquadrille2 Elegant is a lovely thing to say. I am leaning towards Florence, definitely.

Firebird83 · 08/12/2020 19:56

Definitely Florence. Much more elegant than Maisie.

jambeforeclottedcream · 08/12/2020 20:37

I much prefer Florence and I love Pearl as a middle name
