Etta or Maeve

I'm stuck between Etta and Maeve for a first name. Just after initial reactions because I can't decide, thank you!

Maeva - best of both worlds?

Lovely name. Maeve Etta doesn't work as well, but if it's your third DD you might as well have both the names you love :)

Sorry to me, Etta sounds like someone clearing their throat. Or just a guttural type sound because I know these days people are too lazy to pronounce the letter T and use their throat

Thank you everyone it's much appreciated. We really don't have much of an accent and our last name goes with both. Our two other daughter's names are short and end in A so I suppose Etta would fit with them. If we went with Etta we'd probably have Maeve as a middle name. If we have a girl she'd be our third daughter so we've slightly exhausted girls names now but these two I love.

I prefer Etta, l as associate Maevw with Mavis. The issue with accent isn’t just about your family. My family don’t have a strong accent but what will the name sound like said by people where you live if there is a pronounced accent?

I prefer Maeve.

I didn’t think the official 2020 popularity list came out until next year? Seeing as we’re still in 2020 now...

Also - people are forgetting the glorious Etta James when they respond to Etta as if it's a problematic name! It will be beautiful on your DD and you'll never think of anything but her when you hear it!

Maeve = Dave. Don't get the appeal. Reminds me of mavis

I like Etta but the potential "Eh-ah" might have put me off a bit

Love them both. Maeve is on my list of girls name for any future baby! Also like the name Etna if you're not sure on Etta x

I know etta James, was completely in my mind... Still doesn't sound like a complete name to me

We have an Etty and I know another poster has an Ettie 🥰 know several Etta’s too . We love it

I prefer Maeve, it has a more flowing sound.

Aw brilliant, have you or the mum's of the Ettas ever had any problems with the name? I've never come across another Etta here.

Not keen on either, but of the two, Etta.
Check how it sounds with the surname - Etta Lott or Etta Lamb etc.

We’ve had compliments and I know the Ettas are well received too :) x

Hello, I need Birthday party advice please!
My daughter is turning five soon, thanks to Covid she's never had a proper party with friends. We've booked a small hall this year but I don't really know where to start. What are the best 5th birthday parties you've done? Party entertainers? Bouncy castles? It will be two hours long.
