I like it. It’s the name of one of my best friends, nicknames galore!

DramaAlpaca · 06/12/2020 00:59

It's very 80s. My first thought is the song by Marillion.

CuppaZa · 06/12/2020 01:01

Agree it’s very 80’s

hedwigismyowl · 06/12/2020 01:03

I'm not keen tbh but that's because I know 2 Kayleigh's and neither of them are nice. But if you love it, use it

Orphlids · 06/12/2020 04:42

I agree with PP that it’s very much of its time. And I too only knew a horrid Kayleigh. She tried to pinch my boyfriend.

The snob in me thinks it’s a little bit dreadful. I know we’re not supposed to think it, or say it, but there we are. I much prefer Hayley, which I always think sounds so cheerful, but is dated too.

August20 · 06/12/2020 04:54

I don't mind the sound of it but can't find a spelling I like.

I don't know anyone of that name under 30.

I wouldn't choose it myself but it does have a nice sound.

KleinBlue · 06/12/2020 05:10

Really dated.

Onceuponatimethen · 06/12/2020 05:18

Really dislike, sorry. What about other name sending with the ey/ie sound or starting Kay:

Catherine can be nn Kay (or Katie obviously) or Kitty
Or Katrina etc

Or other ending ie or ey names like Charlotte nn Lottie, Sophia nn Sophie

zigaziga · 06/12/2020 06:52

I do love the song.

But yeah the name is a bit 80s mean girl.

Roselilly36 · 06/12/2020 06:57

I love the song, I like the name too, I don’t think I have ever met a Kayleigh. So quite unusual, but not in a way where you would forever be explaining the pronunciation. Go for it OP.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 06/12/2020 06:58

I like it but would probably spell it Kayley. I know one and she spells it Caley.

Throughabushbackwards · 06/12/2020 06:59

I also know a Caley and I think it much more classy when spelled that way.

CodenameVillanelle · 06/12/2020 07:00

So 80s! That's not necessarily a bad thing but it's dated.

Autumnismyseason · 06/12/2020 07:23

Lovely name

TigerDroveAgain · 06/12/2020 07:27

Thanks OP: now I have an earworm Xmas AngryXmas Grin

VenusClapTrap · 06/12/2020 07:29

80s mean girl sums it up for me.

Mishmased · 06/12/2020 07:36

I work with a Kayleigh aged 24/25 and she's lovely.

Agree with all of this. Apart from the boyfriend pinching, obvs!

It’s not exactly a timeless, elegant classic.

CoffeeSTAT · 06/12/2020 07:48

I know a nice Kayleigh! I must admit it wasn't to my taste when I heard it at first but it's grown on me as she is so sweet and her nickname is Kayls which I like.

Caley I would want to pronounce kah-ley not kay-lay

KatherineJaneway · 06/12/2020 07:50

I like it.

sofiaaaaaa · 06/12/2020 08:09

I don’t think it’s that dated is it? I’m in my 20s and know a decent amount of people call Kayleigh who are the same age. It’s fairly commonplace.

Unfortunately Dark Greener doesn’t go back later than the mid 90s and you’d suspect Kayleigh to have peaked in the mid 80s but that’s a very sharp decline!! If you know a few Kayleighs in their 20s I guess they’ll be from the first few years of this table, when Kayleigh was in the Top 50-100 names. It’s now 980th.

I don’t see anything wrong in naming a child an unusual name at all it’s just this is a very unusual name that was very popular 25-40 years a go so it’s a bit different.

Kayleigh?
Nell96 · 06/12/2020 08:31

Sounds very 80s. I quite like Kay though.

jellybellydancers · 06/12/2020 09:39

I have taught a couple in recent years but spelled Kaylee. Not a huge fan personally but it's ok.

WiseOwlWan · 06/12/2020 09:42

aGREE,very 80s.

I like the sound of it though. what about Katherine Leigh with nn Kay Leigh of just Kay.
