Slightly biased, but a nice Kayleigh here. Hello!

I really like my name, but I do agree it’s not a name really heard in people under 30 (I’m 33)

My nickname is Kayls, but also go by Kay, which my mum hated as she said it sounded like an old lady name 🙄😂

Confuzzlediddled · 07/12/2020 17:55

Friends 6 year old is called Kayleigh, if you like it what does it matter what other people think?

mommybunny · 07/12/2020 18:03

One might only get this if one is American (as I am) but I hear Kayleigh and think MAGA/Trump: it’s the name of his blonde bimbo-y lying, obfuscating press secretary.

missyB1 · 07/12/2020 18:08

I like it but prefer Hayley.

helloxhristmas · 07/12/2020 18:09

So 80s and not one that should make a come back. The only one I know is awful so it probably colours my view.

Swingometer · 07/12/2020 18:10

It's not awful but it is very dated to the 80s and possibly early 90s

The spelling makes me cringe (I can't explain why!) but I don't really like Caley/Kaley spelling any more
...in a way if you're going to go retro you may as well go the whole hog and use the 1980s spelling too!

I do know a lovely Kaley though

formerbabe · 07/12/2020 18:13

I really don't like it but it's personal taste and its a perfectly normal name that won't raise an eyebrow....although a little dated

CharitySchmarity · 07/12/2020 19:13

I don't like it because:

(1) it makes me think of kale (the vegetable) which is an odd thing for a name to remind people of;

(2) it just sounds too sort of hard and spiky for my taste, as a collection of sounds;

(3) the only one I've known at all well was a horrible mean girl who bullied her own sibling until they were thoroughly depressed.

Maybe if I met a lovely one, I'd change my opinion. I don't really like Kelly for the same reason as number 2 above, but I do like both Kerry and Hayley (they just sound that bit softer and gentler to me), which might have the same sort of vintage feel you're looking for.

YoniAndGuy · 07/12/2020 19:18

-leigh names are generally not great I find.

OverTheRainbow88 · 07/12/2020 19:22

I’ve never taught a well behaved Kayleigh before!

starlight147 · 07/12/2020 19:24

@Throughabushbackwards

I also know a Caley and I think it much more classy when spelled that way.
Agreed, not keen on Kayleigh as it's very dated, but Caley drew my attention in a good way.
Timmytoo · 07/12/2020 19:25

My 11 month old is called Caylee. I've had so many compliments. I'm so happy we chose it as it suits her and we love it. Her second name is Morgan.

Oneandabean · 07/12/2020 19:32

Not a fan at all sorry. There’s a lot around my age late 20/early 30 and I don’t know a single nice one.

HolyBuckets · 07/12/2020 19:34

I agree it didn't even sound like a nice name in the 80s/90s. It's just got a very outdated sound to it.

Pudding01 · 07/12/2020 23:15

After reading some comments I'm really glad my mum won yahtzee when choosing my name, as Dad wanted to call me Kayleigh (because of the song) 😂

Sorry OP, I'm not a fan x

tea69 · 07/12/2020 23:18

I know 2 - one aged mid 20s and one 6 year old!

Antonin · 08/12/2020 15:02

I like the sound of it and I guess that’s a very individual thing. It’s not a name I’d find at all objectionable eg not too OTT but is a bit different and therefore one your DD can make her own. If you love it use it. Much nicer than the now rather boring and faded Hayley.

Kanaloa · 08/12/2020 22:15

It’s okay, I prefer Kacey/Callie which have similar sounds but just seem nicer to me.
