Hi everyone,

What do you all think of the boy's name "Stanley"?

My partner think it's "a very fine gentleman's name", but I find it horrible.

Opinions? x

My Granddad was a Stanley. He was indeed a fine gentleman, if a bit stiff upper lip (he would have been 101).

I like it, but I'm probably very biased

Nell96 · 29/11/2020 13:07

Not keen. But then I'm not a fan of the current trend for 'old man' names. Possible exceptions - Frederick (Fred / Freddie) and Ray (reminds me of sunshine and stingrays!), or classics such as George or Jack.

MrsDoctorDear · 29/11/2020 13:14

It's cute, I know of a Stanley who is around 5 now. Only one I've heard of though in all that time.

Timpani · 29/11/2020 13:22

I absolutely love it!

dementedma · 29/11/2020 13:24

I know a little Stanley, he's about 3. Its cute

Whatsyourflava · 29/11/2020 13:24

Love Stanley

Also love Sidney too if that's relevant

TeddyBeans · 29/11/2020 13:24

It was on my shortlist for DS. It's lovely

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2020 13:27

I'm not normally fond of these 'grandad chic' names, but I like Stanley and also Sidney.

If you find it horrible, OP, it's off the table surely? You both have to like the name.

yeOldeTrout · 29/11/2020 13:31

I used to like it, but I know one (13yo) who I kind of don't like, so gone off. He's a bit of a crude thug.

Snipples · 29/11/2020 13:31

My dad is a Stanley so I'm fond of it but I wouldn't use it myself. It's a nice name. A bit like calling a kid Reggie.

laudemio · 29/11/2020 13:36

I very much like Stanley and Ray, both on our list for DS. Slightly put off as it is Bojos dads name.

Boxofpinot · 29/11/2020 13:38

I like it

merlotormalbec · 29/11/2020 14:23

I don't like it but I know of a few little Stanley's

rooarsome · 29/11/2020 14:35

Not a fan- DH suggested it for our little boy but I couldn't get on board.

Quercus3 · 29/11/2020 14:37

I think it's lovely, although if you hate it then definitely don't use it!

SpeckledyHen · 29/11/2020 14:40

I absolutely love it .

Shayisgreat · 29/11/2020 14:49

I'm not a fan either. I just don't like how it sounds.

TicTacTwo · 29/11/2020 15:01

I uses to like it but I now think of Stanley Johnson (BJ's dad) so wouldn't choose it as a name.

TicTacTwo · 29/11/2020 15:04

Stan makes me think of Laurel and Hardy and the current slang "to Stan" which is basically someone who's a crazy fan of something (like the Eminem song Stan)

RusholmeRuffian · 29/11/2020 15:30

Great name!

Tronkmanton · 29/11/2020 15:33

My DS is Stan, so I obviously love it. He’s 15. He’s Stan most of the time- Stanley when he’s in big trouble Grin I think it’s a good strong name.

DustyMaiden · 29/11/2020 15:37

Stan Stan, dirty old man, washes his hair in a frying pan. Combs his hair with the leg of a chair.

My DB and DGF are Stanley, there is a new baby of our neighbours called Stanley. I like it.

Takebackthepower · 29/11/2020 15:40

Love it

RuthW · 29/11/2020 17:28

Lovely

TrixieHeliotrope · 29/11/2020 21:01

Stan is lovely, but I might be biased because my sister is often called a Stan.
