Hi everyone,

What do you all think of the boy's name "Stanley"?

My partner think it's "a very fine gentleman's name", but I find it horrible.

Opinions? x

I agree with you, I think it’s horrible

Surely any name that either of you think is horrible should be off the table?

Smellbellina · 29/11/2020 23:12

The Stanley/Stan I knew growing up was the finest gentleman I ever met

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/11/2020 23:34

Stan/Stanley is too "old man trendy" for me and will likely date. If you like traditional/older names I'd personally stick with similar sounding Sam/Samuel or Henry (or other more classic names like Edward, Frederick etc) - they are used more often by all ages rather than usually young boys or elderly men.

I love it! Know one who is 4. Great name

Chimbleys · 30/11/2020 00:26

I liked it until I remembered Boris's dad.

NC4Now · 30/11/2020 00:34

I love it. My grandad was Joseph Stanley and if I had another boy I’d definitely use it.
But if you don’t like it, it’s a non-starter.

nzborn · 30/11/2020 00:48

My Stanley is the 4th in our family

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 30/11/2020 00:52

It's absolutely lovely. I like the revival of old names both male and female.

SenorFrog · 30/11/2020 00:56

I love it. I knew one at uni and I know another of 21, both really good blokes both a bit cool.

Pudding01 · 30/11/2020 10:39

Middle name at a push for me 🙂

MikeUniformMike · 30/11/2020 11:18

Not keen.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 30/11/2020 13:29

I like it. Also like Sidney, similar feeling to it.

emilybrontescorsett · 30/11/2020 21:37

If you don’t like it then don’t chose it.
Even though it was a relative’s name I would not chose it. It’s just too old man for me.

isadorapolly · 01/12/2020 00:06

I have a Stanley, we only call him Stan though.
In my head it’s a bit more cockney market trader than a gentlemen’s name, although it’s kind of both I suppose.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 01/12/2020 19:35

I love it. There's one in DS's class and I think it's cool 😎

Gremlinpoop · 01/12/2020 20:45

My DD has 2 in her class ( very small school). It's quite popular. Don't pick it if you are doing it to be different!
Personally honestly I don't like it.

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 01/12/2020 20:50

My son is Stanley George. I’m not keen on when people call him Stan though.
I got a lot of compliments on how strong a name it is. I’ve not personally met another young Stanley. It’s obviously not everyone’s taste I appreciate

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 01/12/2020 21:42

Stanley is on our short list 💙

Firebird83 · 02/12/2020 14:26

Don’t like it at all

danascully96 · 03/12/2020 15:32

Not keen unfortunately. It sounds weedy to me for some unknown reason.

TooManyButtons · 03/12/2020 15:33

My 7yr old cocker spaniel is Stanley. It's a fine name Grin

happylittlechick · 03/12/2020 15:36

It's gone in the top 100 so relatively popular.
