Would you say Eve-lyn or Ever-lyn?

I think eev-lin is more south England and ever-lin is Scottish.

popshops · 30/11/2020 03:31

Eve-Lyn. Ev-lin is how I've heard it and it's wrong.

mathanxiety · 30/11/2020 07:02

Ev-lyn or Ev-uh-lyn.

I never heard it pronounced Ee-ve-lyn except for Evelyn Waugh's name.

AlwaysLatte · 30/11/2020 07:06

Eve-Lyn

Marcipex · 30/11/2020 07:10

I’d say Evie! Because, sorry, the eleventy-nine Evelyns I know are all called Evie.

yogurt2090 · 30/11/2020 22:55

@ApolloandDaphne

I would say Ev-Lyn.
May I ask which part of UK you are in? I.e. Ireland/Scotland/North England/South England.

We are in London and am thinking there is a regional difference! Prefer Ev-Lyn from what I am hearing so far!

@YakkityYakYakYak

I immediately read it as Ev-Lyn

I think of Ev-Lyn as a girl name and Eve-Lyn as a boy name

@DelurkingAJ

Isn’t one a boy and the other a girl?

Eve-Lyn for a boy (Evelyn Waugh comes to mind)
Ev-Lyn for a girl

I may be making that up.

I think eev-lin is more south England and ever-lin is Scottish.

No one in Scotland would pronounce it 'ever-lin' Confused

I'd say Ev-eh-lin op.

Namechange8471 · 01/12/2020 12:44

yogurt2090 We are in the North East. Funnily enough a friend from Australia has a daughter named this and pronounces it the same.

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 01/12/2020 18:22

I'd say Eve-lyn it's a beautiful name

Heh1991 · 02/12/2020 01:45

Ev-uh-lin

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/12/2020 01:47

Ev-er-lyn.

BigGlasses · 03/12/2020 12:35

I would say something between Ev-Lyn and Ev-a-Lyn. The a/i/uh sound in the middle is very subtle. I'm in Scotland. I have heard it pronounced Eave - Lyn but wouldn't instinctively pronouce it that way unless that is how they introduced themselves.

danascully96 · 03/12/2020 15:30

American — I would say “Ev-uh-Lynn.”

notalwaysalondoner · 03/12/2020 19:02

This is why I can’t understand why this name has become so popular when the pronunciation is so unintuitive. I would say Eve-Lyn but then always am second guessing myself as at the back of my mind I know it’s probably wrong.

CharitySchmarity · 05/12/2020 21:59

I'd say Eve-lyn unless I knew the person preferred it another way. The first one I ever met was Ev-lyn but I've never actually met anybody else who pronounced it that way.

Redlocks28 · 05/12/2020 22:03

Eve-er-lin.

Smellbellina · 05/12/2020 22:05

Wait for a hint/ask
My friends daughter is called Evelyn and I can never remember how they pronounce it so just wait for someone else to say it first

Zeetah · 05/12/2020 22:05

Ev-lin
