Would you say Eve-lyn or Ever-lyn?

Eve-lyn

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 29/11/2020 00:07

Mother In Laws name.
She pronounced it Ev-lynn
I pronounced it Evil lynn 😂

Duskyy · 29/11/2020 00:39

We mostly say Ev-el-yn, and sometimes a short Ev-lyn with our DD. Some family members do say Ev-er-lyn.

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2020 00:43

Haha thehogfather Grin

Everyone here (Ireland) seems to say EV-lyn. The one I know is Evvy for short.

August20 · 29/11/2020 04:26

I would say Eve-lyn for a boy and Ever-lyn for a girl.

MayMiracle · 29/11/2020 08:15

I know two.

One is pronounced Eve-lyn, (nn. Evie) and the other Ev-lyn

blvdbrokendreams · 29/11/2020 08:18

My.little girl is ev-a-lyn

MillyMolly123 · 29/11/2020 08:20

I think of Eve-lyn as the male pronunciation and Ev-uh-lyn as the female one.

Could be wrong though

musicinspring1 · 29/11/2020 08:23

I’m someone else who thought it was Ev-Lyn for a girl and Eve-Lyn for a boy but only because that’s how a teacher pronounced Evelyn Waugh and how a friend pronounces her name (and she is Ev) for short

flindorama · 29/11/2020 08:36

My mum is Ev-lyn. Only ever heard it pronounced that way in Scotland.

beautifulmonument · 29/11/2020 10:08

Ever-Lin

beautifulmonument · 29/11/2020 10:09

Without the "r" sound of course! I have a southern accent

StCharlotte · 29/11/2020 10:23

My granny was Evelyn, also pronounced Evverlin.

GaraMedouar · 29/11/2020 10:26

Ever - lin

DianeChambers · 29/11/2020 10:29

I switch between the two so id say it however i was introduced.

Like my friend’s child eleanor. I pronounced that one way, after the birth announcement text, then when i met her in person her parents were saying it a different way. So i changed. No big deal.

DianeChambers · 29/11/2020 10:31

My two options were eve-lyn or ev- a- lyn.

Miip · 29/11/2020 11:09

Ev err Lin

ApolloandDaphne · 29/11/2020 11:14

I would say Ev-Lyn.

zigaziga · 29/11/2020 12:20

The majority of Evelyns I’ve know are Ev(er)-lin with only one Eve-lin (old boys name(.

ApolloandDaphne · 29/11/2020 12:23

@flindorama

My mum is Ev-lyn. Only ever heard it pronounced that way in Scotland.
Me too!

I also can never quite get my head round the addition of an 'r' into names/words as it just doesn't happen with a Scottish accent.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 29/11/2020 12:25

Ev-(uh)-lin for a girl, Eve-lin for a boy.

user1493494961 · 29/11/2020 12:32

Eve-Lyn.

Emelene · 29/11/2020 13:06

Ever-lin for me, but I'm aware some people pronounce it eve-lin.

Boxofpinot · 29/11/2020 13:40

Was my nan's name, I love but pronounced as hers was eve-lyn

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2020 19:34

Eve-lyn.
