Hi all, DD due in 2 weeks. What do people think of Amy? Middle name will be Elizabeth.

Bit bland 90s for my liking- but inoffensive

Firebird83 · 28/11/2020 20:45

It’s a bit dated, but fine.

Nell96 · 28/11/2020 22:38

It's fine, a bit boring, but if you love it, go for it.

Whatsyourflava · 28/11/2020 22:40

Love it

StiltonVanDeKamp · 28/11/2020 22:42

Like it, it's become more unusual these days.

Givemeabreak88 · 28/11/2020 22:44

Not a fan and I agree a bit dated but it’s fine.

RoseMartha · 28/11/2020 22:44

I like it and goes nicely with Elizabeth

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/11/2020 22:46

There's nothing especially wrong with it, it's just not my cup of tea particularly (I rarely like names ending in an "ee" sound, too cute for me). But it's a sweet sounding classic that's not overused now. Elizabeth however is lovely!

theseriousmoonlight · 28/11/2020 22:49

I like it. Love Elizabeth too.

OooglyBoogly · 28/11/2020 22:57

Bit outing but my daughter is Amy Elizabeth. :-) Amy seems to be a good name to use these days, completely 'normal' rather than being overly trendy or blatantly made up. But she's the only one in her class, possibly the only one in her school (she's primary school age now). And it's nice to go through school not having to be referred to as 'Amy B' or whatever initial your surname starts with.

Just watch out with the Amy E Boogly or whatever your surname is. Two 'e' sounds right next to each other! Didn't occur to me until it was too late.

BikeRunSki · 28/11/2020 22:58

It’s my ds’s name. She’s 9. The things I have noticed about Amy;
1 - there are umpteen legitimate and “unique” ways of spelling it. It is sometimes hard to convince someone that it’s just A M Y.
2 - A lot of people assume that it’s a nickname for Amelia.
3 - You’re unlikely to be in a group with another one.
4 - it’s a long sound for a little name, and takes a long middle name well.

clpsmum · 28/11/2020 22:59

Love it

Brighterthansunflowers · 28/11/2020 23:45

I think it’s lovely, and the combination Amy Elizabeth works well

Lozz22 · 28/11/2020 23:46

Beautiful name

I personally think it's a bit plain.

I was born in the 90s and most of the Amy's I knew had the middle name Elizabeth - the two Amy's in my immediate friendship group have the middle name Elizabeth.

Nothing wrong with, its objectively nice as it's obviously been popular for a long time for a reason, but to be completely honest it's one of those names where I think the only way to describe it is "inoffensive"

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2020 00:47

Love it. It's short, simple and pretty.

username1724 · 29/11/2020 00:48

I love it! And much prefer Amy to Aimee/Ami/Amey spellings.

FagashJackie · 29/11/2020 00:51

Love Amy. Pretty and cool.

Enough4me · 29/11/2020 00:54

Classic goes well with Elizabeth.

There’s nothing wrong with the name per se. It’s perfectly ok.

In real life every Amy I’ve known has been a compete cow.

And it makes me think of ‘amazing Amy’ the psychopath in Gone Girl

OffredOfjune · 29/11/2020 02:47

Boring, but fine

MercyBodle · 29/11/2020 04:38

I like Amy.

Loladisco · 29/11/2020 05:21

Thanks all! I dont entirely disagree with those saying it sounds a bit dated/boring/ just inoffensive. To be honest DH and I have really struggled to find a name we agree on and Amy is the one we have come to, it is pretty, not associated with anyone we dislike and not often used these days whilst not being totally unusual or weird (to me anyway)
