Hi ladies, I was wondering if the name Libby could be shortened? it's already quite a short name, but me and hubby would like a nickname option. 😁 Preferably something unique, as "Lib" and its varients are overused. Thank you lovelies!

Libby is a nickname, for Elizabeth. Why would you want to shorten it further?

CodenameVillanelle · 21/11/2020 18:18

You can't have a nickname for a nickname

Thurlow · 21/11/2020 18:19

I mean, I'd probably end up saying Libs at some point if I had a Libby - but it is already a shortened version already

FrightClub · 21/11/2020 18:19

Hortense?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 21/11/2020 18:20

It is a nickname. Libs? Can’t really nickname a nickname,

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/11/2020 18:20

Libby is the nickname

PotteringAlong · 21/11/2020 18:21

Libby IS the nickname. Put Elizabeth on the birth certificate, call her Libby.

AJTracey · 21/11/2020 18:21

Liberty

TotalBitch · 21/11/2020 18:21

Bee maybe?

Libs
Bee-Bee

But, as pps say, I also think Libby won't necessarily get a nn, as it already is a nn, short for Elizabeth.

Are you looking for a nn to use on purpose or just trying to find all the possible nns in case you hate one so much that it puts you off the name? If it's the former, I wouldn't find a nn for a nn. I'd stick with Libby, which is already a nn.

BurningEars · 21/11/2020 18:26

Elizabeth 😆

kursaalflyer · 21/11/2020 18:28

Lib-lob
The Libster
Liblar

Whatever you want!
Shazzer, Trace, Lulu....

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2020 18:35

Well... I suppose you could use Lillibet. It's not unique but the current main owner of it doesn't really use it now afaik and she can't last forever.

Seriously, 'Libby' is one of the many NNs for Elizabeth. Use Elizabeth and then you've oodles of variations.

june2007 · 21/11/2020 18:40

Libby is a nickname for Liberty or Elizabeth. To shorten Libby perhaps lib.

zigaziga · 21/11/2020 18:45

But Libby IS the nickname?

Nessashanessa · 21/11/2020 18:46

@FrightClub

Hortense?
🤣🤣 I really don't understand the obsession with nicknames on here. It's ridiculous, why not just give your baby the name you like and want to use.
Nessashanessa · 21/11/2020 18:53

Bee. Liberace. Libellous. Liberate. Statue.....of Liberty. Libidinous

PonderingPeggy · 21/11/2020 18:55

IME nicknames that stick are the ones that evolve naturally and are usually chosen by the child's friends.

CaledoniaCatalan · 21/11/2020 18:56

I don't think Libby would get shortened as it is already a nickname for Elizabeth. I know one Libby and she gets called nothing other than Libby

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/11/2020 19:10

Corned Beef? Confused

AfterSchoolWorry · 21/11/2020 19:15

Libby is a nickname!

BackforGood · 21/11/2020 19:37

@FrightClub
Grin Grin Grin

As everyone has said, Libby is already a shortening.
No doubt, at various times, people will say 'Lib' or 'Libs', but nicknames evolve naturally, and are often nothing to do with their name or what their parents have called them.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 21/11/2020 19:40

Libby is the nickname. She'll spend her life telling people her name isnt Elizabeth because Libby is a nickname for Elizabeth.

Twobrews · 21/11/2020 19:41

I went to school with a Libby, just Libby not Elizabeth. We used to call her Umbongo!

HeddaGarbled · 21/11/2020 19:46

People shorten long names and lengthen short names, so apart from Libs, I think you should probably expect Looby-Loo or similar.

thegreylady · 21/11/2020 21:26

My cousin’s dd is Liberty shortened to Libby or sometimes Bee.
