Hey everyone! I'm new to mumsnet so hello!

The main reason I came on was for advice.. I have a 3 year old little girl named Posie. I absolutely adore the name Posie! I am expecting baby 2 which we found out a few weeks ago was another little girl which we are thrilled about! However, we have a little name dilemma!

We love the name Dolcie, we think it's different, cute and quirky! But we don't know why but we keep thinking Posie and Dolcie sound extremely similar? Do they or is it just us thinking too much?! Any suggestions would be so appreciated. We like names that are different but pretty!

Many thanks, Grace x

Posie is beautiful! I'm not a fan of Dolcie and do think it's a bit similar but I still thinks it's usable if you love it.

Any other names on your list?
Some suggestions:

Demi
Emery
Quinley
Clover
Indie
Grae
Saskia
Bellamy
Remi
Sena
Capri
Sunny

BaseDrops · 18/11/2020 06:56

Darcey is less matchy.

SavoyCabbage · 18/11/2020 07:14

It's a nice name but I agree with you that they sound very similar.

Nell96 · 18/11/2020 08:55

Never heard of Dolcie - not sure that I'm that keen on it. It does sound similar to Posey, but not in a way that makes it unusable. Other names which you might like are listed below. Personally, I think Tansy would go really well with Posey - very underused but pretty. I know one too, and she's lovely.

Darcy
Dulcie
Florence (Flo, Flossie, Florrie)
Tansy
Lily
Ivy
Daisy
Poppy
Iris
Chloe
Flora
Fleur
Luna
Lucy
Elsie
Clara
Eden

I've never heard of Dolcie, I thought it was Dulcie. But I don't think it's too similar to Posie to be unusable.

StripyTigerTail · 18/11/2020 09:07

I don't think they are too similar! Totally fine. They go well together I think.

StripyTigerTail · 18/11/2020 09:08

Omg Tansy though 😍😍😍

Tararararara · 18/11/2020 11:23

Just reminds me of the shoe shop I frequented as a teen - Dolcis. And there's also a dessert/ ice cream places opened locally called Dolcie.

Firebird83 · 18/11/2020 15:52

I think they’re fine together.

VenusClapTrap · 18/11/2020 15:53

Too similar. They sound very twee together.

DotBall · 18/11/2020 15:55

Surely the only name to go with Dolcie is Gabbana 😂

Bubblebox · 18/11/2020 16:05

I love Posie but really dislike dolcie. It's sounds clunky.
Posie and Cleo would be lovely.

JaJaDingDong · 18/11/2020 16:07

Dulcie, not Dolcie.

Posie and Dulcie are fine together.

JumperooSue · 19/11/2020 09:39

Posie is gorgeous, Dulcie (usually hyoernated with the name May/Mae/Rae) is one of those names I’ve heard screeched across the playground a few too many to like anymore I’m afraid.

Enterthedragons · 19/11/2020 14:22

Posie is gorgeous. Don’t like Dolcie (makes me think of ‘dull’ and they are too rhymey together).

Like PP’s suggestion of Tansy.

Yesyoudoknowme · 19/11/2020 14:29

What you need to remember is that little girls grow up into (possibly) big women. If my parents had called me Posie (or Tansy) I would hate it, I am... Amazonian. I hope she has a middle name...

Disappointedkoala · 19/11/2020 17:38

@Tararararara

Just reminds me of the shoe shop I frequented as a teen - Dolcis. And there's also a dessert/ ice cream places opened locally called Dolcie.
Absolutely reminds me of the shoe shop. I had some great Spice Girl-esque platforms from there in the 90s.

Dulcie or Darcey would better.

YoniAndGuy · 19/11/2020 17:46

Dolcie, no. Sounds made up and yes I thought immediately of the cheap shoe shop chain!

Dulcie is the name - lovely, very retro.

However I agree that Tansy would go so well. Yes they're similar - but they really suit.

Posie and Dulcie
Posie and Tansy
Posie and Cassie
Posie and Cleo
Posie and Romy
Posie and Heidi
Posie and Annie

Arosadra · 19/11/2020 17:46

Never heard Dolcie, only Dulcie and I can’t get away from ‘dull’.

They are a bit matchy too. I love the suggestion of Posie and Cleo upthread.
Maybe steer clear of the -ie sound?

Posie and Megan
Posie and Nell
Posie and Clara
Posie and Beatrix
Posie and Christabel
Posie and Emmeline
Posie and Maya

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 19/11/2020 21:51

Love Posie, dont like Dulcie.
Delilah
Delphie
Darla
Beatrice

BrutusMcDogface · 19/11/2020 21:59

Too many “s” sounds with dulcie and tansy IMO. I think a name that doesn’t have an “ie” ending would be better, as suggested upthread. I like Arosadra’s suggestions.

Ikeameatballs · 19/11/2020 22:04

Too similar for me and I also think of the Dolcis shoe shop of my teens!

Perdita
Laurie
Juno
Nina
Cora
Elsa
Suki

Redlocks30 · 19/11/2020 22:10

I’ve never heard of Dolcie-that looks far too much like the cheap shoe shop of the 90s though!

Dulcie, I love.

CoffeeRunner · 19/11/2020 22:14

Dolcis was not cheap!!! Shock

It’s still a shoe shop name though.

Have you considered Delphi? Similar, unusual, cute but sounds a little different.

Changethetoner · 19/11/2020 22:16

Not sure how you're pronouncing Dolcie - is it Doll-sy ? or Doll-chy? Or something else?
