Worried I've picked the wrong name

I'm not sure if I'm just having a 'moment' as I've been feeling a little down the last few days, but I'm panicking that I chose the wrong name for my daughter who's 6 months.
She's called Lola, and I recently read on a (non MN) forum a few people saying it was chavvy, immature or sounded like a prostitutes name! Also connotations around The Kinks song, and the controversial book Lolita.
I was set on the name for ages as I think it's really pretty, and have only received positive comments on it in person, but I'm just scared that these worries about it will stick with me.
Has anyone felt similarly regarding their choice in name?

I did....but we’d given her a long “proper” name, so were able to switch to that (eg she’d always been Katie, but then went by Katherine).

I wouldn’t be too put off by the comments of random people on the internet! That said, though, if you don’t like it, I think it’s possible to change up to a year. Or does she have a middle name that you could switch to using as her preferred name?

Miip · 16/11/2020 22:06

It's never going to be popular on here but if you like it don't worry about what any randoms think.

Name regret is quite a big thing though so if you don't like it just change it while she's young.

purpleme12 · 16/11/2020 22:07

It's a lovely name
I love the Charlie and Lola books

FluffyEggsontoast · 16/11/2020 22:08

Just wanted to say I adore the name Lola

One of my favourites, a lovely sound to it

Mumsnet tend to prefer names like Charlotte (which I love too).

You won't find a universally popular name even on here though.

DramaAlpaca · 16/11/2020 22:09

It's a pretty name. If you love it, don't change it.

FluffyEggsontoast · 16/11/2020 22:09

Unless you have another name that you're 100% totally set on then I think you should forget about these worries. Lola is lovely and I bet she'll love her name

user1493494961 · 16/11/2020 22:09

As pp said, does she have a middle name if you're not happy, or is there another name you think suits her better.

BaronessBomburst · 16/11/2020 22:10

Lola is pretty! It's easy to spell, easy to pronounce, works in different languages. It's a good choice.
Every name out there has at least one less than desirable wearer.I thought my name was safe until it hit the headlines some years back as the mistress of a high profile celebrity. Stop worrying! Flowers

ShowMeYourCat · 16/11/2020 22:10

Lola is absolutely adorable, a hairdresser I used to go to had a little girl called Lola and whenever she mentioned her I thought how cute it was!

Mumdiva99 · 16/11/2020 22:10

Don't listen to forums. My sons name was slated on here yesterday (Archie) because it was chosen by H&M, because it will date blah blah blah.... makes no difference I still love the name.

Lola is a fab name. And kids grow and make names their own.

Whatthebloodyell · 16/11/2020 22:11

I think Lola is a lovely name! The Charlie and Lola books are great, but even before I had read those books (many many many many times ) I thought the name was cute and spunky. It’s my ideal type of girls name, pretty but without being overly frilly.

bellalou1234 · 16/11/2020 22:12

Its gorgeous.. my dn is a lola. There really dated all the things you've mentioned

JanewaysBun · 16/11/2020 22:13

Mumsnet hates every name except Charlotte basically.

I would chose Lola for a DD fwiw. I would sing the the Lola showgirl song but as a cute thing x

HL123 · 16/11/2020 22:18

Thanks for the lovely comments, they've reassured me Smile perhaps I'm just overthinking!

I also think it's a lovely name. It suits a baby up to a woman. Really pretty and not too popular.
I'd also sing the Kinks song but in a nice way 😊

Fluffytheevil1 · 16/11/2020 22:26

Lola is a lovely name Smile

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 16/11/2020 22:26

(((Hug)))

Honestly, don't give it another thought. YOU think it's pretty, stick with it.

No matter what name you choose, it'll get slated on the Internet.

Even on here, a name can be 'loved' on one thread & get a pasting on another thread.

It does make me think of the Lola the showgirl & the kinks song, but only in that it's toe tapping and the chorus bit- it doesn't make me think about the actual meaning of all the lyrics

It used to make me think of Charlie & Lola, but not so much these days. The Lola in that is a right little little madam! But I don't assume yours will be!

...and once I'd met your Lola, that's who I'd think about when I heard her name

Some people will like it,some won't -same with any name!

(But if you do decide to change it, do it before she turns 1, it's much easier).

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 16/11/2020 22:31

I love Archie.

(H&M hijacked it, but I think he'll be a worthy Archie. He's bound to be cute!)

On another thread everyone will be saying how much the like it.

Just depends who is around at the time & not worth a second thought!!!

WhatKatyDidNxt · 16/11/2020 22:32

I like Lola. Cute and a nice 4 letter name

Gemma2019 · 16/11/2020 22:34

It's a beautiful name, I've always loved it.

JaneAndMichaelStamp · 16/11/2020 22:39

Lola is a gorgeous name. I have dd whose name really splits mn posters in half. Some love it. Others, shall we say, love it less Wink

I don't give it a second thought.

JustanotherTuesday · 16/11/2020 22:41

It's a really pretty name. It is different to a lot of the more common names out there. It will be easy to learn when she starts writing her own name.

Bubbletrouble43 · 16/11/2020 22:58

Lovely name. I know a Lola, she's about 20 and from a very nice family. I think it's a very pretty name.

pinkpanther84 · 16/11/2020 23:05

I love the name Lola Smile

SnowyBerries · 16/11/2020 23:49

I like it
