Worried I've picked the wrong name

I'm not sure if I'm just having a 'moment' as I've been feeling a little down the last few days, but I'm panicking that I chose the wrong name for my daughter who's 6 months.
She's called Lola, and I recently read on a (non MN) forum a few people saying it was chavvy, immature or sounded like a prostitutes name! Also connotations around The Kinks song, and the controversial book Lolita.
I was set on the name for ages as I think it's really pretty, and have only received positive comments on it in person, but I'm just scared that these worries about it will stick with me.
Has anyone felt similarly regarding their choice in name?

Lola is beautiful! I think it's a great name choice.

MimiDaisy11 · 17/11/2020 08:57

I think because naming someone is a big decision it's normal to have worries but like others have said don't worry what people say on the internet. There's a name I have in my list for a girl and I'm sure some people would call it chavy but I really like it and think it's beautiful and that's more important than a stranger's opinion.

When I first discovered mumsnet and this forum in particular I searched my sons name, it’s been absolutely slated on here!! By this time he was 15 years old Confused
His name really suits him, it’s very unique which he loves and goes well with his personality.

So I had a little cry, and moved on. It doesn’t matter what other people think as everyone will have their own opinions.

Oh and the name Lola is lovely, my best friends daughters name too Flowers

Whatsyourflava · 17/11/2020 10:46

Lola is one of my favourite names @HL123

So simple but elegant sounding. I've loved it for years. Don't change it when you still like it, you'll really regret it.

@Mumdiva99 genuinely love Archie too

HL123 · 17/11/2020 10:55

Thankyou Thanks

Dd is 16 and someone said on this board that everyone they've ever known with her name was a bitch. Although it's possible the people she knew were all fine and it's the poster herself who's not great Wink

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/11/2020 11:03

I was told on MN that I’d given DD1 a Kardashian name because I spelt it with a K instead of a C. Ignore what you read on these forums. Lola is a lovely name.

WoodbytheRiver · 17/11/2020 12:40

Oh, Lola is a lovely name. I’d forgotten about Lola and Charlie, loved those books when my children were small. Does your dd have a middle name too?

rc22 · 17/11/2020 12:54

It does make me sing the kinks or Barry manilow song in my head!! I do think it is a pretty name and also reminds me of the Charlie and Lola books which I love. I have taught a little girl called Lola who was great.

StripyTigerTail · 17/11/2020 13:18

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the name Lola! There are a few little girls called Lola around. It definitely isn't something that would attract negative attention imo. The Lolita thing, for me, only matters if you are actually calling her Lolita. I have seen Lolita threads on here before and for me, the association with the book would be too much. I would never use Lolita. Lola is fine.

Just to mention, baby name regret can be a symptom of PND. Obviously, that alone doesn't mean you have PND, but just in case there is anything else.

HL123 · 17/11/2020 16:38

Thankyou all. Yes Lola does have a middle name but it's quite an old fashioned family name!
I am being mindful about PND symptoms due to how I've been feeling lately, thankyou Thanks

That should be let me live vicariously through you! Sorry Grin

ThirdTimeLuckyIHope · 17/11/2020 17:15

You can't please everyone and they obviously never heard the phrase if you don't have anything nice to say shut the hell up

Lola is a lovely name 💕

YoniAndGuy · 17/11/2020 18:51

I like Lola.

It's quite trendy middle class around here.

CustardCreamm · 17/11/2020 19:11

I also like Lola, such a pretty name Smile

Rockmehardplace · 17/11/2020 21:05

I always think “would I like to be called this name?” And I’d love to be called Lola! It suits a child, teenager, or I imagine a really strong confident woman being called Lola.

She will be surrounded by Ellie’s/Evie’s/Dolly’s/Lexis, and Lola is much fresher sounding than those!

Winecheesesleep · 17/11/2020 21:10

I love the name Lola! It reminds me of Charlie and Lola which I think are such sweet books.

Kb12 · 17/11/2020 21:10

I really like that name

lewes2 · 17/11/2020 21:14

It's a gorgeous name! So long as you like it, keep it.

User415373 · 18/11/2020 16:42

I've taught a few Lola's and always think it's a beautiful name.

Sausagedog1 · 18/11/2020 20:47

Gorgeous name. Please don't doubt it for another second and enjoy your beautiful baby girl. Internet forums are terrible for making you doubt yourself, I was the same.
You love the name and that's all that matters Smile

emilybrontescorsett · 18/11/2020 22:25

Every one has their own opinion.
I think some popular names are awful but that's my opinion.
I would not change it.

PostmanSpaff · 18/11/2020 22:33

I think Lola is gorgeous. It hits that sweet spot of being impossible to mispronounce or misspell but isn't over used, and I actually think it sounds classic without being old fashioned. Also I can picture like a 60 year old lady or a 5 year old girl Lola. Don't give it another thought.
