Which do you prefer and why? Any other names I might like if I like these? Baby not due for a while but they are our front runners at the moment for a girl. Middle name suggestions also welcome

I prefer Hazel. I just wrote a long script as to why, but it’s so ridiculous and subjective I will just say I like the nature connotations and also that I know a lot of Alices and Hollys (although of ages 11 to 16 as that’s my kids and family kids age range) but no little Hazels.

mintich · 11/11/2020 13:28

1 Hazel
2 Holly
3 Alice

Same as above. I dont know any little Hazels but I live the name. I also really like Holly.
Alice is ok but I know quite a few under 2

mintich · 11/11/2020 13:28

Love the name not live it!

emmathedilemma · 11/11/2020 13:32

Alice
Holly
Hazel with this one a lot lower down the rankings than the others!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/11/2020 13:34

Holly

FluffyEggsontoast · 11/11/2020 13:49

Holly!
It's so underused these days I love it but then I do love your whole list

Elvesinquarantine · 11/11/2020 13:59

Near Xmas baby? Not Holly.
Wtf is Alice would put me off.
I love Hazel.

Trousersareoverrated · 11/11/2020 14:07

Gah! Very spilt opinions! Thank you all for taking the time to comment. I’m not too bothered if the name is popular or not.

It will be a spring baby so not near Christmas- I don’t know if that makes holly better or worse!!

Holly or Hazel are nice. Not as keen on Alice for some reason.

SionnachRua · 11/11/2020 14:11

Holly, then Hazel. Alice is a good way down the list imo.

Whatthedoodle · 11/11/2020 14:12

Hazel
Alice
Holly

Hazel is my current top runner for my baby girl name list!

MondeoFan · 11/11/2020 14:15

I like Alice or Hazel.

Know too many Holly's

user1493494961 · 11/11/2020 14:18

Love Alice, such a classic name.

campion · 11/11/2020 14:19

Alice - timeless classic.
Holly - ok
Hazel - very 1950s

Spidey66 · 11/11/2020 14:21

Alice and Holly, though tbh Holly to me is for a baby born in December. Still lovely though.
Not keen on Hazel, seems a bit dated tbh

Magicbabywaves · 11/11/2020 14:22

I know three Hazels under 6. I like it, it sounds witchy.

Trousersareoverrated · 11/11/2020 15:41

Interesting that people seem to know small Hazels. I’ve just looked up popularity and Hazel is nowhere to be seen in the current charts. Holly is there but low down. Alice is rising and is in the top 25.

Hmmm... leaning towards Holly as a nice middle ground as I have an old fashioned name that I hate and DD has a VERY popular name that I love but worry about all the girls with the same name - will she be no.3 in her class?!

FluffyEggsontoast · 11/11/2020 16:04

Holly would be a perfect choice
It's numbers fall every year too so popularity wise it's a safe choice as not on a big upswing
I wouldn't assume Holly was born at any particular time of year
There's quite a few babies called Autumn and Winter and Summer these days and I wouldn't even predict they were born in those seasons let alone Holly

InMySpareTime · 11/11/2020 16:07

Funnily enough, all 3 of those names were in DD's primary school class! She's in college now.
My order of preference:
Hazel
Holly
Alice

Redburnett · 11/11/2020 16:10

All three are lovely names IMO.

idril · 11/11/2020 16:17

I have a 13 year old Hazel. Don't think she's met another one but it could easily have become more popular recently. Whenever she gets a supply teacher (at least when she was in primary schools) she told me that they almost always commented "Oh, that's a nice name"!

Trousersareoverrated · 11/11/2020 16:21

Now I’m leaning towards Hazel again. Good thing I have lots of time! I did like the idea of Alice with Hazel as a middle name but have been put off by the rising popularity of Alice.

What would you put as a second name to Hazel or Holly? Something short needed with out long surname and although I like Alice I don’t like the initials it would make so no vowels!

OP posts:
Claricestarling1 · 11/11/2020 16:22

Holly is number one for me..Alice and Hazel seem really harsh sounding imo whereas Holly isn’t.

InMySpareTime · 11/11/2020 16:26

The Hazel I know has middle name Jane, but May, Dawn, or Diana would also work as middle names.

Constance1 · 11/11/2020 16:26

Hazel is a gorgeous name, the other two are nice enough but just a bit meh.
