Is there anything obviously wrong with this name before I use it?!

Hi 👋
Never posted before so bare with!

We are a due a daughter just before Christmas and are planning on calling her Iris Joy. Iris means rainbow in Greek I thought it was a fitting name after a year like 2020! Joy is a family name and I liked having a festive nod due to being born in December.

I suddenly panicked last night that there may be some horrendously obvious reason why I shouldn’t use this 🤦🏼‍♀️ Any thoughts?

We currently have a son who is Quinn Thomas George

Thanks xxx

I can’t see any reason why you shouldn’t use it. It’s a gorgeous name!

satsumasunrise · 09/11/2020 10:28

Fab name.

OhMsBeliever · 09/11/2020 10:28

They're both lovely names.

LizzieBananas · 09/11/2020 10:29

All sounds lovely.

YoniAndGuy · 09/11/2020 10:30

It's really lovely. Congratulations!

Herja · 09/11/2020 10:32

I always think of eye balls rather than flowers when I hear the name Iris. Still think it's a lovely name though! Especially with Joy, they flow very well together.

RuthTopp · 09/11/2020 10:32

Lovely name, ignore any naysayers, your baby , your choice . Congratulations.

helloxhristmas · 09/11/2020 10:32

Its lovely

FlyNow · 09/11/2020 10:33

Sounds fine to me, very nice names.

OverTheRubicon · 09/11/2020 10:33

It sounds lovely, and goes well with Quinn too. One word of warning is that Iris is REALLY popular, at least in our area of London. That's not necessarily an issue, but if you want something less usual, she'd be the only Joy in the class (and it's also a lovely name).

Iris Joy is absolutely beautiful

My friend's grandma who died recently was Iris Joy. Lovely name. And she was a lovely lady. Little, very well read and clever, witty, and had a wonderful twinkle in the eye.

theotherfossilsister · 09/11/2020 11:12

Iris is really pretty.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 09/11/2020 11:13

CastleOfDoom · 09/11/2020 11:17

Iris Joy is very nice, can't see any problems with it.
Joy is so underused I think, it's a lovely name.

Lsquiggles · 09/11/2020 11:21

What a beautiful name!

We're due a DD on January and planning on calling her Iris Amelia. I think it goes well with our DS name and I've not come across any (Scotland). Don't understand the eyeball issue - to me the iris is beautiful with all the different colours and patterns. My main concerns are that some people think of it as a granny name, and that it sounds like virus. DH also mentioned the other day sounding like Isis, but I'm not sure that's as much of an issue now as it would have been a few years ago. Anyway, I've definitely way overthought it over the past few months, and although these are concerns, they're not putting me off! Joy will be lovely for a middle name too. Good luck!

Spied · 09/11/2020 14:08

Very pretty. No issues I can think of.

lemorella · 09/11/2020 14:57

Beautiful and goes with Quinn very well.

kulaexchange · 09/11/2020 15:01

Really beautiful name and I like the reasons you've chosen them. Congratulations op.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/11/2020 15:03

I think it’s pretty. I’d probably lengthen the middle name to Jocelyn but that’s just because I like the flow.

TempsPerdu · 09/11/2020 15:03

Iris Joy is beautiful - I think flowers, rainbows and goddesses (and only then eyeballs!) so all good. Also strikes a good balance between strong and feminine. My one reservation would be that Iris is getting quite popular now, along with lots of other ‘vintage’ names, so it depends if that bothers you.

Gentlemumma · 09/11/2020 15:22

Thanks all ❤️❤️ Pleased to hear nothing glaringly obvious ❤️❤️

Beautiful names.
The only thing I would suggest is giving your daughter the same number of middle names as your son in case she thinks is you didn’t put the same amount of care or thought into her name. (Siblings don’t need reasons to feel jealous, even if it’s completely a non issue to you)

DramaAlpaca · 09/11/2020 15:43

Such a beautiful name.
