I like Emma, Hazel and Heather in that order.

I don't like your boy names.

babynamelover · 08/11/2020 03:36

Tobias & Hazel are my favourites

MercyBodle · 08/11/2020 05:49

I love Rafe (my favourite, very cool) and Tobias.
Flynn is nice enough.

I love Edith and Tamsin.
I like Emma. Heather is a bit dated to me, though possibly so rarely used now that it could feel fresh. Hazel seems generally well liked, but I find it harsh sounding.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 08/11/2020 06:00

Not Quill.

SeanCailleach · 08/11/2020 06:54

Rafe - feels unfinished to me, or like a nn, or just vair posh
Flynn - love this
Otto - like Rafe, feels like a nn
Quill - ooh! I do like that. As in Fionn Mac Cumhail? nice spelling.
Tobias - vair posh.

I like all your girls' names.

20viona · 08/11/2020 06:55

Flynn is average, hate all the others.

mathanxiety · 08/11/2020 07:04

Rafe - not great
Flynn - awful, middle syllable of 'skinflint'
Otto - nice
Quill - is a pen made from a feather
Tobias - best of your list, truly nice

Edith - lovely
Heather - awful, very dated
Hazel - lovely
Tamsin - lovely
Emma - meh

user1493494961 · 08/11/2020 09:59

Quill Is very odd, I like Tobias. Your girls' list is a bit bland but Emma is nice.

Flymetothestars · 08/11/2020 10:14

Boys

Rafe - someone on here pointed out the similarity to Rape and that put me off. It's also probably more common than you're expecting. Whilst the name in its own right is fairly unusual, the numbers of Raphael, Ralph, Rafferty are all pretty trendy and all those names often get shortened to Raffy round here. I know quite a few Raffy's

Flynn - love this name

Otto - love this name

Quill - no

Tobias - love

Girls

Edith - top choice

Heather - ok, again I saw someone on here describe this name as "very 80/90s American cheerleader" and it put me off.

Hazel - love this

Tamsin - not keen, dislike the sound

Emma - perfect name - so classic

countrystumpkin · 08/11/2020 10:23

Also other names I like for girls are Rowan and Sloane but have been veto'ed by husband

Definitely Edith for a girl.
Either Rafe or Tobias for a boy.

SaffieSoph · 08/11/2020 14:21

Love the boys names, all strong and a little different. Favourites are Otto and Flynn.

I personally don’t like your girls names as much as the boys. Hazel is my favourite followed by Edith. Sorry to all the Emma’s out there but I find it a very dull name. Too common.

countrystumpkin · 08/11/2020 14:42

Thank you all for your feedback - I don't take any of it personally and love hearing everyone's opinions!

Does anyone have any ideas for girls names that go a little better with the boys names? I admit I find boys names so much easier and struggle with girl names. I agree with a PP that my girls list seems a little drab and boring in comparison

ChanklyBore · 08/11/2020 22:09

So we need to find the female equivalents of your male names.

Rafe - Ruby, Cleo, Eve, Romy, Ruth
Flynn - Lynn?! Lyra, Lila, Flora, Erin.
Otto - Ottilie, Luna, Sara, Esther
Quill - Quinn, Elle, Ferne, June.
Tobias - Lucia, Delilah, Sadie, Daria, Dulcie

YoniAndGuy · 09/11/2020 10:37

Rafe - bit wanky
Flynn - dislike
Otto - like, but slightly pretentious too.
Quill - nuts, not a name, don't let your DH anywhere near this process
Tobias - rally lovely, Toby is popular, but I'd still go for it.

Edith - ok
Heather - depressing, dated
Hazel - really dislike, also very 80s
Tamsin - like
Emma - quite like

Not hugely my kind of names overall so I'm probably not being much use!

elfran · 09/11/2020 12:25

I love Rafe, it was a frontrunner for this baby but I vetoed after I saw how quickly it climbed in the charts in 2019. If you're looking for something out of the top 100 and likely to stay that way, maybe avoid (though I'm no oracle). I also like Tobias, though I prefer the simpler Toby.

Edith, Hazel and Tamsin are my faves on your list for girls; all lovely. I find Heather dreadfully dated and Emma just a bit boring. Tamsin "fits" the best with your boys style, I think.

FluffyEggsontoast · 09/11/2020 12:58

You said you're wanting girl suggestions, you seem to like a strong O sound how about

Ottilie
Ottoline
Cleo
Audrey
Dora

Or

Nina
Lara
Willa
Greta
Verity
Jemima
Felicity
Maggie
Clementine

I've not heard of Sloane as a name before but it's a nice sound to it. Rowan is ok but very trendy now and I really dislike nickname Row and similarity to other extremely popular name Roman with M.

notalwaysalondoner · 09/11/2020 13:34

Rafe - like it, very unusual but nice, no pronunciation issues either. I also like Rafi.
Flynn - meh. OK but don't like it much.
Otto - really like it, I knew a little Otto and Greta (German parent) and the names were so cute together!
Quill - weird, never come across one in real life. But OK I guess, don't hate it. Where did you get it from?
Tobias - like it, much much more common than the names you mention above and likely will be shortened to Toby.

Edith - old lady, don't like it despite trend for old lady names and Downton Abbey
Heather - lovely, surprised this isn't more common
Hazel - OK but a bit dowdy somehow. Think Heather is MUCH prettier.
Tamsin - like it a lot
Emma - so bland

vegiburger · 09/11/2020 13:49

Rafe - no
Flynn - Fine, prefer Finn
Otto - no
Quill - no!
Tobias - Fine

Edith - not due a comeback just yet
Heather - Trott
Hazel - fine
Tamsin - fine
Emma - Love but too popular atm

EssentialHummus · 09/11/2020 14:00

Otto and Emma by a mile!

ChanklyBore · 10/11/2020 23:27

Grinning at Edith not being due a comeback yet....it’s 89th most popular last year, nearly 600 baby Ediths in 2019. More popular than Sarah.

calimommy · 11/11/2020 04:36

Wow I am sitting here laughing at the horrendous response to Heather!
😂 Ouch! 😂
