I live in Wales and I haven't heard of a lot of them. I would choose Mabli or Tesni, I know a little boy called Mabon, which is nice.

Tempjob · 07/11/2020 19:09

thanks user, those three names are beautiful

Gorgeous mostly. Glesni was what I wanted for DD.

thedancingbear · 07/11/2020 19:16

I would go for Enlli just to enjoy English people trying to pronounce it

Cerwyn and Ebrill are both lovely imo.

If we’re doing classic welsh names, my favourites are aneurin/Nye/Nai and Meyric.

Girls
Adlais - Echo? Really?
Marlyn - not a welsh girl's name
Cerilys- not a welsh girl's name
Nerys - like
Ebrill - not a welsh girl's name, just the word for April
Elora- not a welsh girl's name
Enida- not a welsh girl's name, Enid is.
Mabli - fine
Tesni - fine
Glesni - fine

Boys
Malwyn - WTF
Cerwyn - fine, but dated
Delwyn - fine, but dated
Enlli - girl's name
Maben - Mabon
Mabyn - Mabon
Morwyn - WTF
Merfyn - fine
Emlyn - fine
cedwyn - fine

You are either taking the p**s or you don't speak Welsh

thedancingbear · 07/11/2020 19:24

Fucking hell, mike, why the nastiness?

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 19:27

Some of those name suggestions are awful. Not just not names, but are actual words with meanings.

Isabelle99 · 07/11/2020 19:32

I love Mabli and Emlyn!

forgetthehousework · 07/11/2020 19:37

So you want them to spend their entire life explaining how to spell their name every time they need any sort of paperwork doing ... every time ...

christmasclove · 07/11/2020 20:48

Nerys, Enida and Cedwyn.
Enid is great too.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 07/11/2020 20:51

Do you live in Wales? If not, there will be pronunciation issues.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 07/11/2020 20:51

Not if they live in Wales
Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 07/11/2020 20:52

I'm not keen on the boys options but I do really like Mabli for a girl.

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:20

@Tempjob, apologies if I seem nasty.

It looks like you might have picked up those names from an online list of welsh names. The lists are not reliable, and some of them have girl's names listed for boys, ridiculous suggestions and so on.

If you are not familiar with Welsh pronunciation, C and c are always said as K. Ch is a letter in it's own right and sounds like the ch in loch.

-wyn and -wen names are dated, but Cerwyn (Kerrwyn, kerr like in kerry) and Cedwyn (Kedwin) are quite nice.

YoniAndGuy · 07/11/2020 21:20

Mike is right, half of those are total nonsense

YoniAndGuy · 07/11/2020 21:22

Like if someone came up with a list that went

Aloce
Licy
Finluy
Jimes

Etc.

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:22

Thanks Yoni.

My DC are called Gwenwyn (White, blessed) and Aflan (Welsh for Avalon).

YoniAndGuy · 07/11/2020 21:23

I would go Mabli for a girl and Mabon for a boy

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:23

DC3 is going to be called Ffiaidd (Welsh for Bluebell)

YoniAndGuy · 07/11/2020 21:26

Those are lovely Mike!

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:31

They are aren't they. Everyone says so.

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:34

Oh bugger, I've outed myself.

sallysparrow157 · 07/11/2020 21:36

Olwyn for a middle name for DC3 Mike?

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:37

I think Olwyn Ffiaidd runs more smoothly and it's more unisex.

MikeUniformMike · 07/11/2020 21:41

I think maybe a DC3 might be a bad idea.
