Middle name help

TashP92 · 05/11/2020 20:12

We aren't finding out the gender of our final baby, but we have shortlisted first names. However we're really struggling with middle names 🙃 Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - and opinions on the first names we've chosen (we haven't decided on the top name for both genders!)

Our shortlisted first names are:

Girls
Beatrix (Trixie)
Nox
Reign

Boys
Bexley
Knox
Huxton

Thanks in advance 😁

The only one I like is Beatrix. Nox just makes me think of noxious.

Oneandabean · 05/11/2020 20:59

The only one that seems like an actual name to me is Beatrix which is lovely, the rest seem made up.

DramaAlpaca · 05/11/2020 21:00

You like names with 'x' in them, that's for sure.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 21:01

Beatrix (Trixie) - fine. Trixie sounds like tricksy.
Nox - Nox Ious
Reign - Offiah as a mn? Raine is a better spelling.

Bexley - Heath as a middle name
Knox - County as a mn
Huxton - Huxley is better

formerbabe · 05/11/2020 21:04

Reign is a boys name isn't it...I'd have spelt it Raine for a girl. It's nice.

I like Huxton for a boy. Please don't call your baby Bexley...it's a place on the London/Kent borders.

diddlediddle · 05/11/2020 21:11

When I see Nox and Knox it makes me think of Amanda Knox, and that whole sorry business is not something I'd want to be associated with... not to mention they're not very nice names (especially Nox for a girl!)

Beatrix is nice. Would prefer Rain, Raina, or Reina to Reign.

Bexley is a slightly crap town in Kent / south east London, don't call him that!

Huxton is probably the best of the bunch... Huxley is a real name I think? I prefer that.

God knows for middle names... the first names are quite interesting enough on their own!!

user495275 · 05/11/2020 21:12

Sorry OP but I really dislike them all. The only one I'd actually deem ok is Raine, spelt this way.

If you like names with x in them, how about:

Alexandra
Alexis
Lexi/Lexie

Maxwell/Max
Alexander/Alex
Axel

33goingon64 · 05/11/2020 21:14

Beatrix or Knox. The others don't seem real to me (Nox?? Bexley???). Have you thought of Xanthe for a girl? Or Xander for a boy?

mathanxiety · 05/11/2020 21:24

Beatrix is lovely.
For a middle name -
Christabel
Kathryn
Annabel
Alicia
Emily
Abigail
Melisande
Mirabel

The rest of the names are a case of letting the letter X run away with you, I feel.

There are several names with an X in them that would be far nicer than the ones you list for boys:

Hendrix
Alexander
Axel
Xavier

mathanxiety · 05/11/2020 21:25

Raine would also be nice as a mn for Beatrix.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 21:29

Baxter would be better than Bexley.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 05/11/2020 21:32

You like your Xs don’t you.

Oxted
Lynx
Ibex
Halifax
Exxon
Oxford

AnnaSW1 · 05/11/2020 21:33

I only like Beatrix.

Nox/Knox just makes me think of Amanda Knox so I wouldn't use that.

Harvey3 · 05/11/2020 21:37

You are aware Nox commonly refers to a poisonous gas?!

TashP92 · 05/11/2020 21:46

Yes I'm aware Nox is associated with noxious gas to most people - but is a name we like. Same as Bexley (Heath) is a town. I really don't understand this whole thing about name association to people and places 🙄

The 'x' association isn't on purpose, just happens to be names we like. Our other children have less popular names also. I made the mistake of our eldest son being called Tyler and there are SO many Tylers around.

The only other names that were close to top 3 are Aida for a girl and Emerson for a boy.

Beatrix for a girl.

Back to the drawing board for a boy.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 21:51

TashP92, you don't but the comments you are getting on here is what your child will get all his or her life.
I imagine you have a perfectly normal name and have no idea of what getting comments about your name is like.

TashP92 · 05/11/2020 21:55

@mathanxiety

Raine would also be nice as a mn for Beatrix.
I like that - it sounds lovely together Smile

Bexley - Heath as a middle name

Grin

Borough
Council
Village

Would all be lovely middle names for Bexley too

Maybe not about my name, no. But I have had many comments regarding other aspects of my life. It's only in recent times that people have become so critical of name association. I have a family member called Reggie - not one person has ever commented on the fact he has the same name as a Kray twin... it's just getting ridiculous tbh
