Sisters Baby Girl - urgent name help*

Roseg990 · 02/11/2020 09:12

Hello all ! My sister who is 20 is having a baby girl in December and can’t find the perfect name.
Ideas:
Ophelia - getting very common so won’t be using
Ocean -
Bluebell -
Tamsin - would get nn tam which isn’t nice (too old fashioned)
Estella - seems too old fashioned
Alaska - probably a bit out there
Aurora - also getting quite common but we love it

Please give name suggestions and what you think of these names
Thanks x

Probably avoid Aurora. It is pretty but is Greek for Corona, which comes from Latin. Not good for a 2020 baby.

ReggieCat · 02/11/2020 11:11

Urgent?? FFS.

Get a fucking life.

Dontbeme · 02/11/2020 11:11

Chardonnay Nouveau, it's classy and french, no obvious shortened nicknames either.

B1rthis · 02/11/2020 11:11

Registering births are delayed for at least 3 months on most parts of the UK. You're looking at Easter before this is urgent.
Call her Bunny.

Littleposh · 02/11/2020 11:12

My oldest went a week without a name not sure of the drama?? Maybe you should let your sister name her own kid??

unmarkedbythat · 02/11/2020 11:14

Ophelia, Estella or Tamsin from your list

But there's no urgency. There will be weeks to register the birth and some baby's names only come when you meet the baby.

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/11/2020 11:16

We had the perfect name for dd. But when she was born it just didn’t suit her.
We realised she was a name we hadn’t even considered.

Dd loved her name and it definitely suits her.

LunaNorth · 02/11/2020 11:17

Is there any need for posters to be so bloody rude?

get a fucking life

Really?

Scotmummy1216 · 02/11/2020 11:17

Robyn, Hollie

Sunbird24 · 02/11/2020 11:21

If she likes Tamsin but isn’t sure about it how about Tansy?

saraclara · 02/11/2020 11:21

I opened this thread with my stomach lurching. I thought the baby was sick or had an accident.

Seriously, do not make OP titles like this.

saraclara · 02/11/2020 11:23

To explain, many of us only find OPs from the trending or active list. So don't necessarily know what branch they're posted on. A title like that puts people on alert

This.

I don't like any of them, let your sister and her partner choose the name.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 02/11/2020 11:25

Urgent help! 🤣 its not even your baby.

diddl · 02/11/2020 11:27

I like Ophelia best, then Aurora.

Aurelia?

Pokerfaced · 02/11/2020 11:29

@OneofPansPeople

Another who opened thread thinking you'd posted in the wrong place. Urgent ffs.
Yes, I thought it was going to be some life or death situation involving a baby, posted in the wrong section in a hurry!

OP, you and your sister can calm down a bit. This is only the start of November. We didn’t finally decide on our son’s name until we were on our way to register him when he was two months old.

FilledSoda · 02/11/2020 11:39

People will be expecting a post about a life or death situation. I'm sorry you're getting a bit of flack and it's taking away from your actual question but the use of ' urgent ' in this context is completely inappropriate.

CastleOfDoom · 02/11/2020 11:45

I think the nickname Tam is quite cute tbh

Me too.

TabithaMeow · 02/11/2020 11:51

I love Alaska! It is beautiful! Also like Aurora and Ophelia although agree it is too popular now. I LOVE Bluebell but would never be brave enough to use it! I think it sounds beautiful, and Blue and Bell are both adorable nicknames. Also fail to see how it is weird when other flower names are insanely popular at the moment, as sre other names that sound similar like Isabel. How about Ophira, if you like Ophelia? Or how about Juniper if she likes nature-y names? Or Juno? Sorry people are being rude and aggressive to you, there is no need for it. I hate it when Mumsnet gets like this - women ganging up on people, being sarcastic and vile, verging on actual bullying, for no reason. Worries me that many of these posters are parents if they think this is acceptable behaviour. Ignore them, OP.

TabithaMeow · 02/11/2020 11:53

Also I worry about posters who think the title 'urgent NAME help' would be about anything other than urgent advice about a baby name. It isn't the OP's fault you weren't paying attention. Stop being such drama llamas.

My comprehension is fine, thanks. Unfortunately some of us have had experience of friends and family seeking urgently to find a name for a baby for very sad reasons I don’t think I need to go into.

I assumed it was because a baby was dying, hence the need for a name was urgent.
SunShinesStill · 02/11/2020 11:57

Maybe your sister wants to choose her own babies name?

DawnMumsnet · 02/11/2020 11:58

Hi all, just letting you know that we've edited the title slightly to make it clear this is a thread about baby names - it may not have been obvious to anyone who opened the thread via the Trending box and isn't aware it was posted in our Baby Names topic. Smile
