Joe/Joey

Boys names are particularly difficult for me and DP to think/agree on, I already have a girls name sorted. The boys name I like is Joe and I like Joey. Would you have Joe as an 'official' name or Joey? (And yes...I do watch Friends but this is not the only reason for choosing this name haha)
Also, I would like William as a middle name for any boys name that we agree on so feel free to suggest other names that could go before William.

I have a Joe - he was christened Joseph, was known as Joey until he was about 10 when he decided that the name was babyish, and then became Joe. He never uses Joseph, but quite likes the fact that he has a formal name which would work should he become PM.

So I’d suggest using Joseph as his ‘proper’ name. But obviously I’m biased.

I would have Joseph as the official name. If you want to have an abbreviation as the official name then there's no difference between Joe and Joey.

Joseph William is a lovely name. He could be 'Joe' forever more but he would always have that option.

Firebird83 · 29/10/2020 15:12

Joseph William with Joe/Joey for short

formerbabe · 29/10/2020 15:13

I agree Joseph William is lovely.

musicnotesand · 29/10/2020 15:17

I LOVE Joey

MumChats · 29/10/2020 15:21

Love Joseph!

MadisonAvenue · 29/10/2020 15:22

I have a Joe William, that’s what’s on his birth certificate. Joseph didn’t suit him (and still doesn’t as an adult) and it would always be shortened anyway.

1940s · 29/10/2020 15:51

I love Joey

LittleTiger007 · 29/10/2020 15:58

Our friends have just had a Joey about a month ago. Lovely name. I personally would have given him the name Joseph, Jonah or Josiah officially but nicknamed him Joey or Joe, but it’s fine not to.

cloudydays7 · 29/10/2020 16:17

Thank you all for your responses! I am thinking more towards Joseph William and then Joey/Joe as a shortened version we can use.

Joseph or Joel perhaps? Joe and Joey are nicknames. Prefer Joe but that's personal preference of not liking boys names ending in the ee sound

Tillygetsit · 29/10/2020 22:39

I have a Joseph so I'm biased! He's been called Joe,Joey and Jobi Wan Kinobe! Josrph William is such a handsome name.

cloudydays7 · 29/10/2020 23:42

Thank you everyone! The more I say it, the more I love it! Joseph William...(surname has two syllables) ☺️

Aquamarine1029 · 29/10/2020 23:44

Joseph, definitely.

ClaireP20 · 29/10/2020 23:44

Joe is lovely. Not Joey though. It means skivvy where I'm from (as in, "what a Joey")

june2007 · 29/10/2020 23:45

I like Joseph, but not Joe on it,s own and Joey is baby kangaroo.

ClaireP20 · 29/10/2020 23:46

Joseph William is absolutely beautiful. Very classy.

TildaTurnip · 29/10/2020 23:49

I’m not usually keen on ‘cute’ names but I really love Joey. I know a couple of differing ages and it works for both. I too would choose Joseph for the BC.

sarahjaneg · 29/10/2020 23:49

@Tillygetsit

I have a Joseph so I'm biased! He's been called Joe,Joey and Jobi Wan Kinobe! Josrph William is such a handsome name.
We have a Joseph Paul but he's also been known as jobi wan kinobe! I thought it was just us 🤣🤣🤣
ClaireP20 · 29/10/2020 23:50

Also, why shorten it when he has such a lovely name. You should make him proud to have such a strong name. He can shorten it later. Don't let the teachers shorten it either OP, they are a nightmare for that..

BackforGood · 29/10/2020 23:58

Another who would use Joseph and then he will have options at different times of life / from different people.
Joey is sweet fro a little one, but doesn't sit so well with a teen / man in his 20s or 30s for me.

elp30 · 30/10/2020 00:01

While pregnant with my third child, I thought of the most friendliest, happiest, fun, attractive and funny men that I've ever come across in my life. A few were called Joseph, some were José, one was Ché, another Giuseppe and all those men were referred to as, "Joe".
I decided that Joe was going to be the baby's name. I ended up having a girl so I never got to use the name.
Joe is a great name all on its own.

diddlediddle · 30/10/2020 06:19

@elp30 oh what a shame you didn't use Josephine! I think it's a wonderful name

Rachel93x · 30/10/2020 12:21

Joey! I love that name!
