Thinking of naming our baby Alma, love the way it sounds, soft and calm. Also love it's meaning in other languages. Thoughts please...

Coldwinds · 28/10/2020 12:47

Yes I like it

missmouse101 · 28/10/2020 12:47

To me it's a 70 year old's name, so I'm not keen.

VioletSunset · 28/10/2020 12:47

Love it

Spied · 28/10/2020 12:50

I don't like it.
It reminds me of Coronation St. Sorry.
( Always one- I knowHmm)

Peachbubble · 28/10/2020 12:50

I like it.

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/10/2020 12:53

Reminds me of a toothless elderly person eating lukewarm porridge! Sorry! Not sure where the image comes from!

IKEA888 · 28/10/2020 12:56

yes yes yes

JollyGiraffe12 · 28/10/2020 12:57

I like it it’s a very gentle sounding name

Frenchcroissant · 28/10/2020 13:03

Means Soul in Spanish, pretty common name there but for older ladies. If you like it go for it, I think it's lovely.

Quercus3 · 28/10/2020 13:31

I like it 😊

giletrouge · 28/10/2020 13:40

Really lovely OP.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 28/10/2020 14:00

I like it. I know a lady called it and she is the most beautiful, gentle soul and has really made the name grow on me.

MikeUniformMike · 28/10/2020 14:26

It's fine. It's calm but not wet sounding. Nice and easy to say and spell.

AllPlayedOut · 28/10/2020 15:08

It's a very ugly name.

Frenchcroissant · 28/10/2020 15:45

Surely that's just a question of taste, "allplayedout" ? That's a very rude thing to say as the OP it's thinking of it for her baby.

I adore this name, inspired by a toddler Alma I know. So much so, it's on our shortlist for our next one ..

The OP asked if people liked the name. I answered. People saying that they love the name is also a matter of taste and no more or less correct than my opinion.

jasminetealeaves · 28/10/2020 16:42

Thanks FrenchCroissant :)
But it's ok, I don't mind honesty. I like hearing what people think to get a good idea of how it would go down.

I like it! Gentle without being twee or sounding weak.

PeonyandDahlia · 28/10/2020 16:46

Lovely

IOwnDogsNotFrogs · 28/10/2020 16:58

I like it but it makes me think of Llamas. Alma the Llama. And now I’m thinking of the Llama Farmer song from Horrible Histories so I’ll be humming that to myself all evening Grin

NameChange30 · 28/10/2020 17:03

I like it. It was a name we considered for DD... DH preferred Alba but I vetoed it because of the association with cheap electronics Grin

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/10/2020 17:04

Not my thing: very dated and a bit wet and bland.
