Earthy girls names

My friend wants a strong earthy girls name inspired either by the sea, forrest, or mountains. She loves the names Bear, Wolfie, Forrest, Rocky, and Caspien for a boy, but the baby is a girl.

For a girl she is considering Sequioa after the trees, or Gaia after Mother Nature, but she says she much prefers her boys names. She wants a name that is unusual and will be the only child with this name in their class so wants to avoid flower names, and more classic earthy names such as Willow, Fern, etc. She knows a baby River. Any ideas?

Cuillin is a mountain range on the Isle of Skye. I’ve often thought that’s a lovely girls name.
Heather- might be a bit mainstream for her?

Sounds so poetic!

How about Skye?

Jessbow · 25/10/2020 14:40

What about a river name? Shannon is pretty, and not common anymore.

I knew a Shannon whose brother was Cavan, which could be used for a girl I guess as well ( anything seems to go these days)

pittypottyputtypink · 25/10/2020 14:42

@Jessbow I like Cavan

Gaia is a very nice.

You can hear Cuillin here forvo.com/search/Cuillin/sco/

The 'Cu' sound is not 'coo'; it's sharper, rather similar to the 'u' in the English 'pure'

Cuillin is either a plural noun meaning 'the ridges' or a version of the name of the great Irish male mythological hero, Cu Culainn, which means 'dog/hound of Culan'. Am not sure whether either of those meanings make it a very pleasant name for a girl.
