Niamh...lovely, underused (if you're in England, anyway) and goes very nicely with big sister's name too.

LittleRa · 24/10/2020 18:55

@ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap Thank you! I really like Niamh too. I’m actually a teacher and so that makes for lots of name associations that means I couldn’t use them, but I have a really lovely Niamh in my class just now which makes me like it all the more! We are in England.
DP has a favourite on the list and I have a favourite on this list (won’t say which just yet!) but neither of us have each other’s as a favourite so not sure whether we’ll end of agreeing on a third name instead or if one of us will bow to the other’s favourite Grin

@ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap Love the username, by the way! It’s my usual Christmas ritual to see It’s a Wonderful Life at local indie cinema, I’m so hoping I can still do it this year!!

@ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap sorry to de-rail but best user name ever.

DD had a hamster named Zuzu Petals

and OP I vote for Lucy off of your list. What about Lydia?

happytoday73 · 24/10/2020 18:59

Nice set of names... I really like Rebecca, caitlin Beth (would pressume short for Bethany) "and Erin..

LittleRa · 24/10/2020 19:00

@mumsiedarlingrevolta I’m happy to approve an It’s a Wonderful Life related derail Grin

@happytoday73 I like Elizabeth as a full name for Beth but DP not as keen on that. If it had to be a full name then yes, I think Bethany but I do think Beth is ok on its own.
Do you think Rebecca always becomes Becky? As I’m not as keen on that (no offence to Beckys!)

Erin - ok but I'm not mad about it
Niamh - nice
Lucy - like
Emmie - no. I love the name Emma but Emmie is too twee
Aoife - no. Too now and will get misspelled and mispronounced.
Caitlin - know too many if I combine the Katelyns
Beth - really like
Rebecca - classic but I know too many
Catherine/Katherine - fine. I think Cathy will make a comeback.

supersonicginandtonic · 24/10/2020 19:06

My friend has an Alice and an Eliza. I think they are pretty together.

OwlOne · 24/10/2020 19:06

Niamh or Beth

elfran · 24/10/2020 19:06

I love Niamh, Lucy and Beth with Alice Smile

TartanDMs · 24/10/2020 19:07

Really like them all, apart from Emmie and not too sure about Caitlin. Favourite would be Lucy.

Nutmegpapaya · 24/10/2020 19:09

Erin - love Erin! This is on my own list I think its lovely
Niamh - nice but not to my personal taste
Lucy - pretty but maybe a bit plain
Emmie - this is nice but if popularity is something you're concerned about I would maybe avoid it as it seems to be booming at least in my local area in the last 12 months (popularity doesnt put me off personally!)
Aoife - lovely
Caitlin - not keen on this
Beth - not keen
Rebecca - not keen
Catherine/Katherine - not keen

My favourite is Erin, then Aiofe then Emmie!

Shayisgreat · 24/10/2020 19:10

Great list! I like all of them except Rebecca. Love Niamh and Aoife. Niamh is my favourite.

Normandy144 · 24/10/2020 19:10

I like most of them, particularly Erin, Niamh, Aoife and Lucy. Not really keen on Emmie as it feels too nicknames, especially compared to Alice. So if you were going to go for it I would suggest Emma or Emily and then shorten it to Emmie.

LittleRa · 24/10/2020 19:10

Thank you for the replies Smile

My favourite (I think!!) is Erin.
DP’s favourite is Aoife! I don’t know why, I think it’s nice but a bit too unusual spelling for me.
I think the possible second choice for each of us (if I can’t get him to settle on Erin!) will be either Lucy or Niamh.
I want to decide, whereas he’s being a bit more non-committal to making a final decision Grin

If you go with Beth, put Beth or Elizabeth o the bc.

Bethany's ok but Bethan isn't.

Ltay2 · 24/10/2020 20:12

Love Erin, Niamh and Aoife! 💗

My only concern with Aoife in England would be if some people haven't heard of it and have no idea how to pronounce it but I love the name!

JollyGiraffe12 · 24/10/2020 20:17

Lucy or Beth

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/10/2020 20:47

Alice is such a very English classic sort of name to me, that I'm not sure all of your choices really match it/go well with it, if that's your concern.

Erin is lovely but feels more modern/trendy in style and Aoife and Niamh are gorgeous but very Irish compared to Alice.

I personally think Catherine goes best with Alice and is definitely my favorite of your choices - such a classic, elegant name with a lot of nickname choices.

Elizabeth (Beth) goes well too, as does Emma/Emily (Emmie) - again both feels like traditional English classics, that suit all ages to me.

Lucy and Rebecca work fine, I just don't like them as much (Lucy I find a bit sweet and I'm not keen on "Becky" which all the Rebecca's I've met are known as).

Raffaella13 · 24/10/2020 20:49

Erin and Niamh!

Both lovely names which aren't overly popular. I'm a teacher too so I'm also very picky!

Lucy is lovely too.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 24/10/2020 21:48

@LittleRa, @mumsiedarlingrevolta,

Thanks for the username love Smile
THE Christmas classic for me, too.

emilybrontescorsett · 24/10/2020 22:19

Catherine for me.

Ellabella989 · 24/10/2020 22:24

Erin or Lucy for me
