We’re completely stuck here. These are the names we like and our reservations -

Otto - think it might be too popular and a bit too ‘trying to be different but actually being the same’
Otis - I see it suggested a lot on these threads and I think it’s about to become very popular
Jude - I know several toddler Judes so think that has put me off
Remy - not sure if it sounds a bit soft for a grown man or like a nickname..?
Rudy - again not sure if it’s a child/young man’s name and will sound a bit silly as an older man?

Any feedback on these names would be great. And if you can think of any similar names that we might like?! Otherwise he’ll be nameless at this rate

I love Otto - it would be in the mix for a DS - but I do think that and Otis are quite likely to have a ‘moment’ on the back of Arlo, Theo etc - O sounds in general are trendy at the moment.

Orson is also a good call. I’d add Rufus, Torin, Asa and Laurie as having a similar feel. Quite like Jude too, but not keen on Remy and Rudy.

Nacomi · 23/10/2020 16:30

I honestly don't like any of those names. How about Joshua?

Jollypostman1991 · 23/10/2020 21:12

I love the meaning of Orson so much, I think that’s the main reason I like the name Orson. But I can’t pick a name just based on its meaning, they won’t be calling that out on the register!

Joshua is ok but it’s BIL name and certainly doesn’t have any special feel to it for me.

Laurie was on our list for a while @TempsPerdu and may find its way back on

I love Remy. I could never use it because of our surname though.

Second choice from there would be Otis.

emilybrontescorsett · 24/10/2020 22:28

I like Jude.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 25/10/2020 09:13

Otto - feels a bit try hard if you aren't german
Otis like it
Jude sounds nice
Remy - i would think of remi/Remy as a female name but do like it
Rudy - love it

HalloweenGhostlyHare · 25/10/2020 12:56

I know a gorgeous little Otto so that is my fave of your list.

Redlocks28 · 25/10/2020 13:01

I love Otis. I think it’s on the way up of the popularity charts due to being the main character in Sex Education!

YessicaHaircut · 25/10/2020 13:10

We really struggled with boys’ names too OP. We actually ended up with a baby Joel (so funny it’s been mentioned a lot on this thread!) but also had Adam, Daniel, Ethan, William and Alexander as shortlist options. From your list I like Jude, Rudy and Otis.

I love Rudy. It reminds me of the song by the Specials (stop your messing around...)

Babyevictionimminent · 11/11/2020 11:47

Bumping this because I’m STILL pregnant and we’re still no closer to a name Sad.

I feel people are very positive towards Otis but something is making me hold back from it. I love the sound of Remy/Remi but it seems to get a lot of negative responses when I’ve brainstormed it in front of people. I can’t believe how difficult boy’s names are!

Babyevictionimminent · 11/11/2020 11:48

I really love Rudy but DH won’t consider it because of the sleazy New York mayor Hmm

FluffyEggsontoast · 11/11/2020 11:57

Otis is really lovely

Tristan has a similar strong S vibe to Otis

Rufus

And to follow up the meaning of Orson (bear cub), maybe Humphrey or Swithun? The Oxford Dictionary of First Names says Humphrey is from "a Norman name, Hunfrid, of Germanic origin, derived from hun ‘bear-cub, warrior’ + fred, frid ‘peace’", and I think the -hun in Swithun has the same source.

fruitypancake · 11/11/2020 16:43

Like Jude, not the others much

FluffyEggsontoast · 11/11/2020 17:58

Laurie is gorgeous @Jollypostman1991

cptartapp · 11/11/2020 18:09
