Thoughts on Edwin?

I really like Edward and Eddie but however am put off by how popular Edward is right now. I came up with Edwin the other day as an alternative, think it’s quite handsome and charming and particularly like how it was the birth name of Buzz Aldrin until he changed it. So what would people think of a baby called Edwin, with Eddie as the nickname? Middle name will be Francis. Thank you

What about Edmund?

Pollyputthepizzaon · 03/10/2020 20:59

Very wet.

ZebraKid71 · 03/10/2020 21:00

Love it. I also like Edgar and Edmund.

BikeRunSki · 03/10/2020 21:01

I know 3 - one is on his 80s, one is 20 and one is 9. Although I know the 9 year old best, it always feels like an old man’s name to me. I get that it is an alternative to Edward and can have the same diminutives, but Edward is so much nicer to me!

BestIsWest · 03/10/2020 21:02

I think it’s lovely.

Kanaloa · 03/10/2020 21:18

I like Edward & Edmund better. Edwin is okay though.

emwithme · 03/10/2020 21:18

It was our boys name (after Buzz Aldrin). It's a lovely solid name, not over-used, easy to spell, reasonable to shorten.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 03/10/2020 21:21

No, Edwin definitely sounds 'wet' and isn't a nice sound.

If you are going to call him Eddie day to day anyway, then Edward is much better IMO.

Edwin is a great name and not overused. I prefer it to the other Ed names.

DramaAlpaca · 03/10/2020 21:41

I like it.

I love it. My dc had a friend called Edwin and he was great so it has good associations for me.

Abracadabra12345 · 03/10/2020 21:45

Love it. We have an Edwin at preschool

Angel2702 · 03/10/2020 21:50

I really love it and it was very high on my list after my husbands great grandfather.

tornadoalley · 03/10/2020 21:51

really nice old english name, cute but can be grown up too

I was just about to write that!
I loved "Orange Juice" when I was a teen but that solo song was fabulous!

otterbaby · 03/10/2020 22:03

My grandfather's name! I love it, would choose it if we were having a boy.

Tillygetsit · 03/10/2020 22:22

I love this name, probably because it was my df who was the least wet person you can imagine. He didn't like it so went by his middle name which was a terrible name ( sorry dad)

Ikeameatballs · 03/10/2020 22:26

I love it.

Antonin · 03/10/2020 22:26

Great name! No idea why people find it wet — good old English name and a classic.

Firebird83 · 03/10/2020 23:55

Love it! Definitely not wet.

CamelotSweetheart · 04/10/2020 00:07

I much prefer Edward (and slightly prefer Edmund) - but strangely, I would put Edwin very much in the same box as Francis, your chosen middle name - so if you like that, then perhaps it's perfect for you?
