MayDayFightsBack · 28/09/2020 01:52

Esme is really short, why would you need a nickname? Confused

Liddell · 28/09/2020 01:55

Emmy

Ezzie

motherofdxughters · 28/09/2020 02:00

Esme is very short. A nickname would be useless.

Lavendersy · 28/09/2020 02:04

It's so short and easy to say. You really don't need a nickname!

Palavah · 28/09/2020 02:06

Esmerelda
Eggs
S&M
Mr Smee
Mesme
Begbie
However Esme or her siblings pronounce it before they can speak properly
A nickname related to her surname

That's the kind if thing people end up with as actual nicknames, not this MN weirdness of pre-defining them.

Esme is a lovely name itself - why do you need something else?

PurpleDaisies · 28/09/2020 02:08

Totally agree palavah.

The Esme I know had the nickname “Billy”.

eausolovely · 28/09/2020 02:20

I know an Esme who gets called Emmy by her mum and I think it’s so annoying 😂 It’s not even any shorter, it’s one of those names that’s just nice as it is and is a bit difficult to shorten any more

drigon · 28/09/2020 02:32

Mimi comes to mind, though it's no shorter!

hagsrus0 · 28/09/2020 02:40

Granny Weatherwax

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 28/09/2020 02:42

To all the people going she doesn’t need a nickname ... maybe OP wants a name that is affectionate rather than shorter

And while Esme is lovely it’s also nice to have an affectionate name.

Also there are instance where the recognised long standing nickname is longer than the actual name it’s self so I’m not really sure what your point is!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 28/09/2020 02:54

Johnny is longer than John
Rosie is longer than Rose
Charlie is the same length as Charles
Indie is the same length as India

Why does a nickname need to be a shortening?

wildthingsinthenight · 28/09/2020 02:56

Mimi

olderthanyouthink · 28/09/2020 02:56

My name doesn't shorten well a friend made it longer Hmm

So esme-smesme Grin

Calmondeck · 28/09/2020 06:41

The only Esme I know gets Essie. It was only when I received her wedding invitation did I realise her name was Esme.

8catsisnotunreasonable · 28/09/2020 07:41

Maybe let a nickname develop over time OP? I have a Pickle and a Puss, neither of which are in any way related to DC's names, they just evolved and stuck...🤣

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/09/2020 07:46

I also think Mimi-very sweet

DontFadeAway · 28/09/2020 07:52

The two Esme's I know just get "Es"

myhobbyisouting · 28/09/2020 08:24

Oh I hate it when people shorten their kids names to an initial.

You don't need a nickname, bizarre that you'd decide this before naming your child. Nicknames are meant to be affectionate habitual things not pre-planned Confused

RainbowRaine · 28/09/2020 09:00

Ez

midsomermurderess · 28/09/2020 12:06

It's so short it scarcely needs one. If she has one it will likely emerge in its own time.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/09/2020 12:09

I had a colleague with a DD Emily whose NN was bobby - I thought for quite a while he had 2 kids.Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/09/2020 12:11

I know 2.
One gets Ez.
One gets Mimi.

upsidedown1987 · 28/09/2020 12:12

@NaughtToThreeSadOnions thank you for this!
People have seemed to get very irritated with the question! I understand that natural nicknames come along with time and look forward to that. I also am aware that it's a short name. I just love variation on names and was wondering if anyone could come up with anymore. The only ones I could think of were Ez and Ezzie
