My name is classic, I know people of all generations with my name. But it's easy to spell and pronounce, it's pretty and I love it.
I know people on the baby name boards are usually looking for something unique or uncommon but there is definitely something to be said for having a simple name Smile

Asteria36 · 27/09/2020 16:41

I was one of 3 in my year at school, same again at work - a good Biblical name! Very popular in the late 70s. I have a less common spelling and go by an uncommon shortening/nickname though. Have always despised it. Yet to meet anyone else with the names we gave our 3 children - lots of pets though!

PurBal · 27/09/2020 16:41

Fairly common for women of my generation and slightly older. I know lots of older but far fewer young. One of 3 in my school year. Almost always had a colleague that shares a name.

MJMG2015 · 27/09/2020 16:41

Sort of inbetween.

Everyone (English) will have heard of it, but it's not usual to meet others. There was NEVER anything with my name on it when I was a child.

Shayisgreat · 27/09/2020 16:42

Very uncommon in GB. Quite common in Ireland.

Aozora13 · 27/09/2020 16:43

Extremely common. Always had an initial/nickname. Was in a meeting the other day with 8 people and 3 of us had the same name!

My DDs have unusual names!

TinyMetalBirds · 27/09/2020 16:43

It was not thought of as uncommon when I was born in the 1970s, although there wasn't anyone with the same name in my year at primary school, secondary school or college. It is much more common now, I am always hearing it out and about and there is usually one in both my DC's classes.

NC4Now · 27/09/2020 16:44

Yes, one of three in my school year. Then I married a man with an extremely common surname too. I like the anonymity.

Wallabyone · 27/09/2020 16:44

Mine is uncommon, was never on any cups/bookmarks/pencil cases when I was young, and still isn't now. It's not a horrible name, but I've only met one other!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 27/09/2020 16:47

very common when I was born. (late 1960s) and I was one of 3 in my class at secondary school. However no babies were given my name in the UK last year - so it's due a comeback!

Kljnmw3459 · 27/09/2020 16:48

Mine is very common. Always in top 100 but rarely top 50.

TheGinGenie · 27/09/2020 16:49

Very common especially for the decade I was born in

merryhouse · 27/09/2020 16:49

Common at the time. Both classes at my primary school had one; I can think of at least three others in my year at secondary; two other mothers in S1's primary school class with the same name, as well as both members of the office staff. French abbess made a saint a few years before I was born, three famous actresses while I was growing up, a pop song with the name in the title. Well-known (if slightly niche) tv producer same age as me.

Haven't met or heard of a child with the name for years.

Whalewhale · 27/09/2020 16:51

It was common in 80's but not so now, I like it but apparently it's a 'bitchy' name Shock

frogswimming · 27/09/2020 16:53

Uncommon, but an old name and always liked on current baby name threads.

Frazzled13 · 27/09/2020 16:54

Uncommon, a couple a year I think (looked into it out of interest when picking DD’s name).
Always been similarly uncommon I believe, don’t think I’ve ever met another.

merryhouse · 27/09/2020 16:54

oh, and my surname is so uncommon we're probably related to all of them, even the spelling variation - though we haven't yet found the link. Nevertheless there were at one point three people with the same first name and surname - one of them my third or fourth cousin, the other married in.

doctorhamster · 27/09/2020 16:56

Not really unusual but not common either. The others I know of/have met are at least 10 years older than me. I've never met/heard of one younger than me.

NameChange2PostThis · 27/09/2020 16:56

Uncommon - but fairly common in another country

june2007 · 27/09/2020 16:57

Well I am a 970,s baby and it was quite popular then. I have known a few others around my age with it but not overly popular.

WhatHaveIFound · 27/09/2020 16:57

Uncommon both in this country and my dad's birth country. It's unusual enough that I have to spell it out to people.

RiftGibbon · 27/09/2020 16:58

Quite popular at the time I was born - not a name that has come back into fashion (yet).

jmh740 · 27/09/2020 16:59

Common for the decade i was born in was a lot in my year at school, my best friend as a child had the same name,
I work in a school one of the boys was talking about his mum she has the same name as me and practically the whole class said it was an old person name! I'm in my 40s I dont think you would find many people under 30 with the same name
