Hi all,

We like the name Kacey/Kacie for our DD, but can't decide which spelling looks better. I'm leaning slightly towards one of them but I'd like to hear other people's thoughts first. We know that Casey is the traditional spelling but we much prefer the other two so don't suggest Casey please Smile

So out of Kacey and Kacie, which do you like better?

Thank you x

Wow there are some crashing snobs on here.

zigaziga · 21/09/2020 09:13

@SeanCailleach but if they there were 3 girls called Elly but spelt Elly, Ellie and Elli does that really make it much easier? Surely a wider selection of names is just easier than lots of spellings?

stairgates · 21/09/2020 09:15

Kasey. Kasie looks like a typo of Katie :)

ButterflyOfFreedom · 21/09/2020 09:16

Kacey.

I quite like it.

I think Casey what other posters have mentioned is a boys name whereas Kacey is very much a girls imo.

SeanCailleach · 21/09/2020 10:36

@zigaziga yes if every child has a different name they are much more memorable. However when written down KC, Casey, Kaysee, Caisie, and Kaicie does give me a bit of a head start over Casey, Casey, Casey, Casey and Casey.

MaryShelley1818 · 21/09/2020 10:46

I would use Kacey.

Enko · 21/09/2020 11:43

if you want the K spelling I would go completely away from traditional and use the Kasie.

Its a pretty name either way and I am another who feels its much nicer than the quite dull Katie suggestions (but I do love Acacia as also suggested)

FizzyGreenWater · 21/09/2020 17:55

Both horrid

doctorhamster · 21/09/2020 18:13

Kasey is better than Kasie. Kasie looks like a typo to me! I prefer the Casey spelling.

JeffreyJefferson · 21/09/2020 18:21

kacey

mediumperiperi · 21/09/2020 18:31

Kacey

I've noticed that a few people have voted Kasey but c looks more feminine imo

BrutusMcDogface · 21/09/2020 18:34

I actually like Casey, but kacie and kacey make my teeth itch. And I’ve never understood that phrase until now!

Bloomburger · 21/09/2020 18:36

Neither

CodenameVillanelle · 21/09/2020 18:38

Casey

YerAWizardHarry · 21/09/2020 18:42

Mumsnet is full of snobs who will judge your name unless its something like Clementine or Tarquin. The sly digs about "common" and "certain vibe" are disgusting Hmm

To answer your question OP I'd say Kacey personally.

FizzyGreenWater · 21/09/2020 18:55

I don't think it's as simple as snobbery. To me, the 'certain vibe' it has is stupidity and trying very very hard to be different - choosing a silly spelling of a fairly familiar name just to be 'original'. Nothing to do with being lower class or common. I don't really like the name Casey much, but it doesn't sound silly or made up and juvenile. Kacie does. It looks like the kind of spelling a child would give their doll.

wigglywormx · 21/09/2020 19:38

But they both sound the same...

There's quite a lot of names with multiple spellings. I don't understand why people get so up right about how other people chose to spell their own child's name.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/09/2020 20:26

Yeah. Lots of Katie Hopkins style dog-whisling going on here

Kanaloa · 21/09/2020 20:31

There’s nothing stupid about the name Kacey. It’s not that different or odd, at least where I live. It’s definitely not trying ‘very, very hard to be different.’ It’s similar to Lacie/Lacey & Macie/Macey, which are both popular and well known with different spellings.

Toilenstripes · 21/09/2020 20:33

If Tarquin is at one end, then Kacie is surely at the other.

BuggeredItUpAgain · 21/09/2020 20:41

I think there is a lot of snobbery about lots of ‘K’ names - Kacey, Khloe, Kyle, Klay, Keenan etc. are all names that do invoke a certain image. It’s not politically correct and it is shit but it is also something that an awful lot of people think, quite possibly without even being conscious of it. I don’t know why - Kardashians possibly?

Personally I’d spell it Casey, that’s certainly how I’d imagine it to be spelt if someone said the name out loud.

You can feel as 'disgusted' as you like. It doesn't change the fact that names like Casey/ Kaysee/ Laycee etc are regarded by many in society as being 'common'.

Rail all you like, you'll struggle to change that.

Ughmaybenot · 21/09/2020 20:44

Kacey, like Kacey Musgraves 😍 it’s not my type of name tbh, but I much prefer that spelling to the other.

Message1q · 21/09/2020 21:39

Prefer Kacey / Casey

CandyLeBonBon · 21/09/2020 23:10

@Miljea then if that's the attitude you hold, it's entirely possible that you are, in fact, part of the problem, no?
