Cedar

I'm currently pregnant with my 7th and I'm liking the name Cedar if I have a boy. I have a dd is called Rowan and my eldest's middle name is Oak, Mother in law has started referring to our family as the forest which I find annoying and I don't know whether adding a Cedar to the mix would be too much

I love that their names would inter connect in some way. Cedar is lovely I also love willow but think that’s more for a girl. I have a friend who called her little boy Acer. I do think nature inspired names are beautiful one of my nieces was going to be called River, which I think is so pretty.

Maybe to your mother in law refer to the little one as a sapling (young tree) and have some fun about it back!

DotBall · 11/09/2020 21:50

Tell MIL you’re calling him Twig 😂

I like Cedar, unusual but not so ‘out there’ that it’s whacky. I’d love a Cedar in my classroom 🙂

mamangelo · 11/09/2020 22:04

This made me laugh out loud!! I think go for it if you love the name as long as people commenting won’t bother you. To me you will be asking for comment a bit and will likely be known as the forest family... I actually think this is cute and would like it but if you won’t I would rethink the name

Stinkyjellycat · 11/09/2020 22:13

Sorry OP but I think it sounds ridiculous. Rowan is a well known name for a man but Cedar isn’t. And I honestly think that you’ll get lots of forest comments so if this bothers you, don’t do it. Sorry. Rowan is lovely though.

ivfbeenbusy · 11/09/2020 22:17

It's ridiculous

You sound several trees short of a forest to be honest with your current and historic name preferences. 🌲 🌳

Firebird83 · 11/09/2020 22:19

The Cedar I know is female. I think I prefer it for a girl.

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2020 22:20

Haha several trees short of a forest Grin

FranklyDearIDontRiverdance · 11/09/2020 22:21

Well, it’s very tree like, isn’t it? What do you expect.

Rowan is a perfectly good name for either sex. Never heard Cedar as an actual name. What are your other DC called?

OhToBeASeahorse · 11/09/2020 22:27

Behave yourself. If you want to go silly with matchy names that arent even proper names buy yourself some fish.

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/09/2020 22:30

Tell MIL you're going to call him Monkey Puzzle.

TinaTraybake · 11/09/2020 23:00

😂 Twig and Monkey puzzle!
My other kids are called Phoebe Oak, Silas Murphy, Freddie River, Rowan Jane, Audrey Thea, and Ezra Solomon. Thank you for the mixed feedback on Cedar, I've got some thinking to do.

Never heard of Cedar as a name for a person. I think, as your other children all have "established" names that people have heard of, I would do the same for your next child so that they don't feel like the odd one out.

whatausername · 12/09/2020 00:30

It's middle name territory I say, IVflytrap makes a good point. Tbh I don't think cedar is a very nice sound but I do love the smell of it.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/09/2020 09:39

How about Ash?

Toobe · 12/09/2020 09:47

Woody?

Scarby9 · 12/09/2020 09:48

Sylvan?

vodkaredbullgirl · 12/09/2020 09:52

Bit of a wooden name lol

SilverOtter · 12/09/2020 09:53

I think Cedar is lovelySmile

twirlywooly · 12/09/2020 10:03

Never heard of Cedar as a name but I would say it is quite effeminate and wouldn't really see it on a boy. Sorry.
As Pp said a more established nature/tree themed name would be better I think for your child.
Like the previous suggestion of Ash.

Whatsyourflava · 12/09/2020 10:07

Cedar nickname would be Cedy (Seedy) - not great

TinaTraybake · 12/09/2020 12:19

I was thinking about C for a nickname but now that you've pointed out seedy I'm not sure what to think.

TinaTraybake · 12/09/2020 12:22

I suppose Cedar could also work for a girl, we aren't finding out the gender so I'll keep it in mind. DH has suggested Henry - do you reckon this flows better?

OP posts:
TinaTraybake · 12/09/2020 12:24

I'm adding Ash to the list! Thank you for that suggestion

SnowdropFox · 12/09/2020 14:18

I like Cedar op, and I think the forest reference is cute. I wouldnt personally be insulted by it.

I knew kids named Ruby, Amber and Jade who were called the Traffic Light sisters. That's cringe!

emmathedilemma · 12/09/2020 15:37

Damn @Toobe beat me to the Woody suggestion!!
