Cedar

I'm currently pregnant with my 7th and I'm liking the name Cedar if I have a boy. I have a dd is called Rowan and my eldest's middle name is Oak, Mother in law has started referring to our family as the forest which I find annoying and I don't know whether adding a Cedar to the mix would be too much

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BabyLlamaZen · 12/09/2020 15:43

I love Cedar but also Aspen.

What are your other children's names? I love hearing unusual names.

BabyLlamaZen · 12/09/2020 15:45

Ash or Asher is lovely

youwereagoodcakeclyde · 12/09/2020 15:53

Maybe as a middle name! Possibly more for a girl.

angelaEhen · 12/09/2020 16:06

What about the name forest

Flappingflamingo · 12/09/2020 18:32

Fractionally better than Denham!!!! 😂 😂 😂 Like the suggestion of forest, Henry forest sounds cute

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 12/09/2020 20:17

What about cedric? Not my taste but at least it's an actual name

TinaTraybake · 12/09/2020 20:37

@BabyLlamaZen
My other kids are called Phoebe Oak, Silas Murphy, Freddie River, Audrey Thea, Rowan Jane and Ezra Solomon.

Go with Henry.

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2020 22:22

He would be nicknamed Cedie if its used as a first name
(Seedy; adjective 1. sleazy, sordid, squalid, low, nasty)

TinaTraybake · 21/09/2020 11:46

I'm not thinking of using a nickname even though other people might. My son silas gets nicknamed Si and I wouldn't want to use the nickname Cedie and I was thinking more of if he gets nicknamed he would be called C or Cee.

Oh no Cedar is horrid. It's got a real cigars-and-aftershave vibe somehow. Bleurgh. And... it's quite different to your other names. They are original but nice.

And he'd be shortened to Seed or Seedy.

Asa, Felix, Bruno?

Shaniac · 21/09/2020 19:02

Ceda pronounced cedar is usually a girls name but its a tree so no reason not to use it on a boy. I really like it.

Runforyourlifeitsagherkin · 21/09/2020 19:03

Cider.

Nope.

Ash is cool

Shaniac · 21/09/2020 19:06

This threads spooked me a bit haha i was literally just talking to someone about a woman called cida and psychic connections and then i log into mumsnet and see this thread.

Whatthebloodyell · 21/09/2020 19:12

Cici for a girl? Willow? Laurel?

Brook for a boy? Heath? Ellis?

TinaTraybake · 21/09/2020 21:29

I love Willow and Ash but DH doesn't so they are off the list. I love Felix but BIL is called Felix. Thank you for all the other suggestions though.

Linden (one of my favourite trees)
Alder
Cedar could be a great middle name with Henry.

I met a girl recently named Lavender, which, in reality, was just gorgeous. It's a heavenly name.

Enko · 22/09/2020 08:17

The Cedar I knew years ago was a girl and often known by CeeCee

I dont think its an issue as your oak has it as middle name and frankly I think your mil is rude

CatRamsey · 22/09/2020 08:22

I like Cedar and I've heard of it as a name before. I actually think the forest thing is cute and I like a pp's suggestion of referring to the baby as the little sapling! All of your kids have wonderful names 😊.

Has anyone suggested Reed yet? It's a nature name and has a similar sound to Cedar.

FightMilkTM · 22/09/2020 08:22

I always read Cedar to rhyme with cheddar Blush I KNOW that’s not how you say it but it always takes me a minute to remember it’s ‘See-far’.

That’s my issue though, and maybe if I knew a cute baby called ‘See-dar’ it would remind me how to say it properly.

—or I would secretly be calling them cheddar in my head—

TinaTraybake · 22/09/2020 11:07

@CatRamsey
Thank you!
I know a little boy called Reed and think it is a lovely name.

He'd have to change it (or be subjected to sniggers all the time) if he ever moved to France or worked for a French company - Cedar is pronounced the same as SIDA, which is what the French call AIDS.
