What do people think of Cassandra and Cassie for short?
Any other suggestions of similar names? I like long names that can be shortened :)
Thank you!!

i like it

AyeCorona1 · 05/09/2020 21:52

Only Fools And Horses - Rodney's girlfriend/wife. Its a no from me op

itsjakeandamy · 05/09/2020 21:53

Cassandra is impossible for me as the prophet of doom.
I really like Cassie though and love Cassia as the longer form.

percheron67 · 05/09/2020 21:53

Beautiful, classic name.

BabloHoney · 05/09/2020 21:54

I love Cassandra.. much nicer than Alexandra in my opinion, and Cass and Cassie are fab shortened versions!

keiratwiceknightly · 05/09/2020 21:57

I love Cassie and in fact, we have one. But the classical refs and Rodney's Cass-arndrar made the full name a no for us. Our girl is Catherine, Cassie for short.

Whatthebloodyell · 05/09/2020 21:58

I really like Cassie, but for me Cassandra will always be Rodney’s girlfriend. (I feel this thread could be split into highbrow/low brow objections in the style of House Of Games).

What about:
Saskia
Tessa
Camilla
Calliope

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 05/09/2020 21:58

She was a goddess who was always sharing bad news, but bless never believed. Not the association I'd want!

Cassiopeia if you want to keep Greek?

Contrary to PP I love Alexandra...

EugenesAxe · 05/09/2020 22:03

I probably wouldn’t use the name for the associated bad vibes... ‘one that prophesies disasters’.

Philippa but Phil not über-twee Pippa
Penelope, Penny
Angharad, Harry
Bryony, Billy
Millicent, Millie
Gwendoline, Gwen

minimagician · 05/09/2020 22:10

Due to its meaning I wouldn't. Isn't Cassandra the one who tells the truth but is never believed?

HairyToity · 05/09/2020 22:13

I know a Cassandra (Cassie) who is in her late 20s. The Cassie I know is lovely, so to me it has a good association.

Enough4me · 05/09/2020 22:15

Not keen.
How about Cathie (Catherine).

whattodo2019 · 05/09/2020 22:15

Awful!!
Only fools and horses ...

BrutusMcDogface · 05/09/2020 22:18

I love cassie! Cassie and Carrie were both vetoed for my kids Sad

yolio · 05/09/2020 22:36

Mary, Anne, Jane, Sally. Whatever.

As a pp said it's Only Fools Horses that Cassandra features in many peoples memories.

Would you think of Camilla? Or Madeleine ? It is the association.

Londonmummy66 · 05/09/2020 22:46

I like it and would use it but I am a Greek scholar so it does have slightly negative connotations. How about Caterina, Carolina, Constanza, Carlotta or if you want a Classical name Calliope, Cordelia, Claudia

Marlena1 · 05/09/2020 22:59

I love Cassie. Pity full version had to be Rodney's gf cos I always hear in his voice. Lovely name though. I also love Carey.

TenShortStories · 05/09/2020 23:05

It makes me think of I Capture The Castle more than Only Fools and Horses, which is a much nicer association.

I'd say go for it. Nobody in her age group is going to be aware of Cassandra from Only Fools and Horses anyway.

Louise91417 · 05/09/2020 23:09

O no...waynes world my immediate thoughtHmm

TheChristmasPrincess · 05/09/2020 23:11

I do like Cassandra but I would automatically think of Only Fool’s and Horses. It also feels a bit dated.

I think Cassie could be used as a full name. Or maybe Cassia with Cassie as a nickname.

pilates · 05/09/2020 23:13

Dislike, sorry

OhMyDarling · 05/09/2020 23:14

I know a 21 yr old Cassandra and she hates her name with a passion. She is a Cassie to us but she hates that too.
She intends to use her middle name when she starts her new job shortly.

Yika · 05/09/2020 23:16

I think it’s beautiful, and not so unusual that it has to be tied to any one meaning or association.

Other long names
Anastasia
Aphrodite
Henrietta
Josephine
Petronella
Florentina
Desdemona
Evangeline
Eleonore
Leticia
Alexandria

Firebird83 · 05/09/2020 23:18

I like it. I don’t think the OFAH reference would occur to her peers!

Bbq1 · 05/09/2020 23:48

Yep, all I can hear with Cassandra is Rodney saying her name.
