What do people think of Cassandra and Cassie for short?
Any other suggestions of similar names? I like long names that can be shortened :)
Thank you!!

I have a Cassia so obvs prefer that. Also there's a difference in how you say it depending upon whether you're from the north or south.
Dh and I would pronounce it differently and that would bug me.

I know a stunning Cassandra in her 20s who is also very lovely, so it has positive associations for me. I watched Only Fools and Horses as a child but I don't make the connection whenever I see the Cassandra I know.

Cassie and Cassia are both nice too. I think you could have Cassia as a full name with Cassie as a nickname.

I know people in their early-mid 20s who have never watched Only Fools and Horses. I expect the name Cassandra won't have an OFAH association for a new baby Cassandra's peers.

HKW81 · 06/09/2020 09:58

One of my best friends has a Cassie, her full name is Cassidy - I love both!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 06/09/2020 10:40

Cassandra wasn’t a goddess. She was a princess of Troy (sister of Paris and Hector) and a priestess in the temple of Apollo. Apollo granted her the gift of prophecy but when she refused to shag him in gratitude he added a curse that her prophecies would always be accurate but never believed. She correctly warned the people of Troy not to trust the gift of the wooden horse from the Greeks but of course they ignored her and the city burned.

I love it. Cressida has a similar origin and vibe.

ImaSababa · 06/09/2020 10:53

Stunning! Really nice. Cassie is cool for when she's younger, and Cassandra is so glamorous and confident.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/09/2020 10:56

I quite like it although I’d worry about Sandra.

Only fools and horses is irrelevant, her friends won’t know it.

SionnachRua · 06/09/2020 10:59

Cassandra is lovely. Sandra might be trending when she's a teen anyway, she might appreciate that - just look at all the 'old lady' names being revived now! If not, she has plenty of alternatives.

MikeUniformMike · 06/09/2020 12:54

Not keen. I should like it but I don't.

theotherfossilsister · 06/09/2020 13:15

I think of I capture the castle and love it. Don't like it if shortened to Sandy though.

Theradioison · 06/09/2020 13:18

It's lovely but I'm over 50 so can only hear Rodney saying Casssaaaaaannnndrrrra

JemimaTiggywinkle · 06/09/2020 13:19

I really like Cassie... would be tempted to use it as the full name.
Not so keen on Cassandra.. it just reminds me of Sandra (and Rodney’s GF)

Brighterthansunflowers · 06/09/2020 17:34

I really like it

I’m not convinced only fools and horses will be a reference for her peers!

Theradioison · 06/09/2020 20:31

Her parents friends and grandparents will all be going 'Cassssssssaaaaandra' in their heads though (if your lucky and not out loud!)

daisypond · 06/09/2020 20:54

I like it. The OFAH Cassandra reference isn’t hugely strong to me. The Greek story is what I think of.

ZebraKid71 · 07/09/2020 18:15

I like Cass and Cassie but I don't like the Sandra part of Cassandra.

My dd's middle name is Cassia which would work with Cassie as a nickname.

Roselilly36 · 07/09/2020 18:17

I think it’s a lovely name, I have only met one little Cassandra ever.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 07/09/2020 18:19

Love it and would have considered Cassie if I had had a girl. Cassandra is defo Rodneys wife for me.

Cassie reminds me of the main character in Roll of Thunder, Hear my cry.

PP recomended Cassia which I also love

mylittleavalon · 07/09/2020 19:27

Cassandra was always my favourite name and I still love it because of the book I capture the castle. People were so shocked that I didn't name DD Cassandra as I always said I would name a girl that if I had one. But even though dh said I could for him it was just too only fools and horses so we didn't. If I had another though we may think about Cassia or Cassidy.

OhRosalind · 07/09/2020 19:31

I love it, despite the negative classical connotations, Cass is beautiful too.

Only fools and horses won’t mean anything to her generation so I wouldn’t worry about that association.
