Thoughts on Rae for a girl and which middles names would pair well?

LouiseTrees · 22/08/2020 22:47

I think Rae is a middle name really

Barryisland · 22/08/2020 22:48

Awful but it’s your child so
Your choice

Elsiebear90 · 22/08/2020 22:51

I really don’t like it, I think it’s very “trendy” and I prefer classic names, but if you like it go for it!

ChelseaCat · 22/08/2020 22:52

Awful. Sorry OP.

What other names are you considering?

OhTheRoses · 22/08/2020 22:52

Please call her Rachel. Middle name: Isabel, Sophia, Verity, Elizabeth

Loveden · 22/08/2020 22:56

I kind of like it - but there are a few around, first and middle names.

daisypond · 22/08/2020 22:58

No. It’s awful.

roxfox · 22/08/2020 22:59

@OhTheRoses

Please call her Rachel. Middle name: Isabel, Sophia, Verity, Elizabeth
Very specific!
theresaplaceforus · 22/08/2020 23:01

Gosh. I didn’t realise it was that awful! I think it was quite pretty.
The other ones that I am considered are Grace (nn Gracie) and Eva

Just trying to give some sensible options.

Grace not Gracie.

Patience is a virtue. Virtue is a Grace. Grace was a little girl who wouldn't wash her face.

I prefer Evelyn or Eve to Eva.

daisypond · 22/08/2020 23:08

I really like Grace, but not Gracie.
Eva is OK but a bit bland.
Both have been popular for years, if that bothers you. They are perhaps a bit tired through overuse now.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 22/08/2020 23:15

The only Rae I know is male

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/08/2020 23:17

I know a Rae. It's a very nondescript name IMO but inoffensive if you like it.

LouiseTrees · 22/08/2020 23:53

What about Eva Rae then?

August20 · 23/08/2020 03:28

Eva and Grace are both good in my opinion.

I personally wouldn't choose Rae.

midsomermurderess · 23/08/2020 03:33

I knew a Rae who was Marjory.

MrsEricBana · 23/08/2020 03:38

I knew a Scottish Rae who was a Rachel. Also the singer Rae Morris. It's ok. I'd avoid all the Evie/Eva/Grace/Rose/Lily/Ella/Ellie/May/Mae type names as they've become over used.

micc · 23/08/2020 07:40

I like Rae :) its sweet.
I like Rachel or something and you call her Rae but then people might call her Rach.
It's simple and sweet, if you like it go for it as its not offensive Haha Its quite a normal name that isn't overly popular wich is the perfect balance. Dont get peoples hate towards it

TheRosariojewels · 23/08/2020 08:37

Raven?

MikeUniformMike · 23/08/2020 09:02

I know a now adult Rae, short for Rachel, and I thought it was nice, but now it is a popular middle name I think it is naff.

Fay is much nicer.

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2020 09:16

I don't like the spelling Rae. I prefer Ray because it's like ray of sunshine.

Rae Louise

Rae Adele

Rae Celine

lottiegarbanzo · 23/08/2020 09:29

The names you like are all very popular as middle names and have been for a while - though Eva as a first name, obviously.

The ubiquitous middle names of the years 2010-15 were Grace, Rose and May. After that time, May morphed into Rae.

Rae, May and Rose are also heavily used as the second part of hyphenated first names.

So, in a way, you'd be doing an unusual thing by using a 'middle name' as a first name. Which I like because you're saying you really like that name, for itself and don't just see it as a filler.

Rae is quite difficult to follow though. You probably need something starting with a consonant and that flows well.

Maybe Melissa, Miranda or Talullah?

lottiegarbanzo · 23/08/2020 09:31

Oh, you could use Aurelia, shortened to Rae. (I know the pronunciation isn't the same but, who cares). Or Aurelie. Or something else. Would give her more options later.

VenusClapTrap · 23/08/2020 10:00

Grace and Eva are much nicer names.

Bearcub01 · 23/08/2020 12:22

I like Rae! It’s not awful at all, in fact I caught a bit of the voice kids last night and the little girl on it was called Rae!!

I have a cousin named Rainer which often gets shortened to Ray!
