Octavia or Aurora?

DH and I love them both equally and are torn between both names!

This name would go with big brother Atticus.

Aurora

Onestepup · 21/08/2020 07:04

Both lovely but I prefer Octavia and it's more unusual.

byvirtue · 21/08/2020 07:04

Octavia was on our short list, we really liked it as a strong, independent, feisty name. We would have used Tavi or Vivi for a nickname when she was little.

Aurora is too Disney princess for me.

daisypond · 21/08/2020 07:22

Octavia by miles. Aurora is now a Disney Princess name and a bit naff.

RandomTree · 21/08/2020 07:23

Aurora. Octavia makes me think of music lessons! (I.e. the word octave.)

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 21/08/2020 07:26

Love Octavia
Not so keen on Aurora I'm afraid

Azerothi · 21/08/2020 07:29

I've got an Aurora, it gets shortened to Rory by everyone except me. If you wouldn't like that go with Octavia.

NameChange30 · 21/08/2020 07:37

I'm afraid my car is a Skoda Octavia so it would make me think of that! It is a lovely name apart from the car association!

I prefer Aurora though.

Mamabem · 21/08/2020 07:39

Love both. I had both on my list for DC2 - but he is a boy! Only thing I found road testing Aurora is that, actually and quite surprisingly, a lot of people seem to struggle to pronounce it... Depends whether that'd bug you.

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 21/08/2020 07:47

I love Octavia, but I'd find it a bit weird if there's no link to no. 8 (birthday? Born in August? I'm assuming not 8th child...).

Agree with PPs that Aurora is too frilly and Disney.

Aurora is also a car. Both these names are far too car like. Sorry.
NameChange30 · 21/08/2020 07:56

Is it?! Must be much less common than the Octavia as I've never seen or heard of it!

missmouse101 · 21/08/2020 07:59

Aurora sounds like roar roar roar so I really dislike it. Octavia is much better, but very harsh sounding tbh.

tinselmom · 21/08/2020 08:19

Thanks for all your input! So far, it looks like Octavia is in the lead.

Personally, I don't mind the Disney princess association for Aurora, and I quite like having the option of shortening it to Rory.

I didn't know that they were both car names!

Aurora is lovely.

MintyMurray17 · 21/08/2020 08:36

Another vote for Octavia. Agree with pp that it sounds strong and feisty Smile

Peachbubble · 21/08/2020 09:42

Octavia. I think it goes well with Atticus too.

elfran · 21/08/2020 10:09

Neither are my style but I prefer Octavia with Atticus. I don't like the princessy connotations of Aurora, I find Octavia is stronger-sounding and less flowery. Love Vivi as a nn.

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 11:29

Aurora I'd rule out for being too long with no obvious nn, and for the same reason as I'd rule out Rory - too many Rs. It would be
Awowa or Auvova in my circle.

Octavia - sounds like a Jilly Cooper novel.

cupofdecaf · 21/08/2020 11:39

I would suggest avoid having 2 children with the same initials if you can't decide between them.

It's not 'now' a Disney Princess name... It has been for decades (since Sleeping Beauty).

Doesn't like a Jilly Cooper novel it is a Jilly Cooper novel

YummyInMyTummy · 21/08/2020 12:13

Neither are to my taste, I find Aurora too Disney princess and Octavia sounds matronly to me - but I think Octavia goes better with Atticus, so would vote Octavia.

LemonBreeland · 21/08/2020 12:19

Love them both, would find it difficult to choose

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 12:30

As much as I like TKAM, the name Atticus isn't to my taste, so feel free to disregard my opinion.
