Unsettled on his name 11 days old

Can I get oppinions, feeling unsettled on his name. We couldn't agree on a name throughout pregnancy, had a list but nothing feels right so we settled on Oscar. we like it but don't love it. I call him Oz already which I quite like.
My husband loves kane.i love Rex but we don't agree. I like short strong sounding names. Oscar feels long and maybe quite popular.
Has anyone felt like this and learned to love the name as time goes on? Naming another human is hard...

@bbee12

If you like Oz then what about Ozzie?
I second the idea of Ozzy. Not my usual style but I like it (and it isn't about my style anyway).

Love the name Oscar!

golddustwomen · 18/08/2020 20:42

Come back op, itching to know which name you have gone with Grin

Pod482 · 18/08/2020 22:59

Thankyou everyone! I read the replies to my husband. Nice to hear lovely comments on Oscar and the possible nicknames it's vented it's a good name. We won't use kane or rex as we can't agree on those. Kane is not popular 😂 We are weeks away in registering him so will keep staring at him and we went back to our list and will think on the only 2 names we agree on and take time getting to know him ( Freddie and Oscar) and accept it doesn't have to feel right straight away. I think my other 2 children the names felt right. I liked the suggestion on Austin (great name) ... Husband not sure...you see our problem.Blush once we've made a descision I'll stick to it and stop thinking about it.... Will update when I know for sure. Thankyou again!

Pleased to see Kane and Rex have been ruled out. Is DH a Spurs fan??
Both Freddie & Oscar are lovely so you're son is fortunate whatever you eventually favour.

Pod482 · 18/08/2020 23:09

husband likes the suggestion of ozzie and Fred as freddie was on the list! Will take some more time and decide and stop.over thinking it. Thankyou for taking the time to reply

Oscar is a lovely name, and he could easily go by 'Oz' (which I love).

7dayslater · 18/08/2020 23:22

Just seen your update - Ozzie is an awesome name. Smile

Viviennemary · 18/08/2020 23:25

Not Rex. That used to be a dogs name. Not keen on Oscar. Kane is like a character from a 1950s western.

ThighthighOfthigh · 18/08/2020 23:51

If you like Freddie how about Frank(ie) for a refreshing change?

Also Max is an awesome name, not that I'm biased Grin

user49er · 18/08/2020 23:55

I had this problem - When ds2 was born I was sure he was going to be a girl we had no boys names at all, my Dm suggested William when he was a few hours old, it fitted perfectly.

Tinty · 19/08/2020 00:02

How about Alexander, then you can call him Xander or Lex. Or obviously Alex Grin

whattodo2019 · 19/08/2020 00:08

Love Oscar
Dislike Zane
Love Rex

sunflowersandtulips50 · 19/08/2020 00:12

my 3rd was really difficult- i knew with the previous two- we went from Troy to Luke and he was literally named Luke on the day we were registering his birth. My last DS was Kit and then we decided he looked more like a henry...good luck!

Hatscats · 19/08/2020 08:15

Kane is awful, Rex sounds like a dog.

Oscar and Oz nn are nice!

Hatscats · 19/08/2020 08:16

I like Fred, nn Freddie - it’s my cats name 😂

DocOfTheBay · 19/08/2020 08:25

Oz / Ozzie shirt for Oscar is great.

Also Freddie.

Caleb
Jago

OnceUponALorry · 19/08/2020 08:51

To be fair Rex and Kane are horrible names.

Oscar / Ozzie / Oz are all lovely.

CoalCraft · 19/08/2020 10:37

I think Oscar, nn Oz, is lovely and good to stick with x

Melabela10 · 19/08/2020 16:22

Luke ?

Redrosesandsunsets · 19/08/2020 22:10

Stick with Oscar.

kellybean18 · 20/08/2020 04:54

Agree with @Sausagedog1 you need to give it time. I’ve never got the ‘wait to see what they look like’ argument because essentially babies look similar (squidgy, small amount of hair, crumpled crying face aha). Give it two years and they look very different! By then he will be YOUR Oscar. I would stick with it tbh, lovely name and you chose it for a reason :)

Britannah · 20/08/2020 22:03

I have a little Oscar who is almost 2 - LOVE his name although we were never keen on shortening it to Oz/Ozzie personally. It may depend on where you live but I have to say since I’ve had him I’ve only ever come across one other little Oscar in all the baby groups we’ve been too so not as popular as you may think. The other name that could work which I love is Kit. Congratulations on the birth of your son xx

FizzyGreenWater · 21/08/2020 12:37

Oscar is fab - cool nicknames but it's actually a totally classic name, also everyone can spell and say it. I'd stick with that. You're more likely to grow to love than grow to hate a classic.

Danniiaddy · 22/08/2020 01:46

If you like Oz as a nickname but not Oscar, how about his initials being O.Z
Owen Zachary
Otto Zane
Or similar to Oz - Ace?
