See I think Louisa is both lovely AND unusual! It made my short list partly for that reason.

For me, Emily (not extremely popular, but when you combine with all the similar-sounding Amelias/Emilias/Emmelines/Emmas it feels even more popular).

And yep, Oliver for boys. I think it's not even the fact that it's the current number one name for boys on the charts, but more the fact that it has been for so long now. Meaning I know so many Olivers under the age of about 15. Great name though, I do understand the popularity.

Orphlids · 16/08/2020 06:31

We have taken Margot off the list for forthcoming baby as it’s shooting up the charts.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/08/2020 07:36

We discounted Eleanor as the nickname Ellie is popular (and we didn't like Ellie that much, just Eleanor).

( Less than 200 babies per year have been given the name Louisa... It's funny how people perceive popularity of names. I know two people who used Amelia as they thought it was unusual)

villamariavintrapp · 16/08/2020 07:49

Eva. I would have used Louisa though, I love it and it's quite unusual now.

Sophie and Alexander. Did use Eve for a middle name despite its popularity though.

Oscar - couldn’t use it because too many dogs in the family are called it!!

Alwaysundecided · 16/08/2020 08:18

I love Isabella and Sophie. Such beautiful names but I wouldn't use due to popularity.
I also took Oscar, Finley and Jack off my boys list due to popularity.

Alwaysundecided · 16/08/2020 08:20

Also I think Louisa hits that rare sweet spot of underused beautiful and classic!

I really struggle with how many MNettsrs love Louisa 😂

Its so 80s,i really don't like it. I just can't find any redeeming quality in it.

My name may or may not be Louisa 😂

Grufallosfriends · 16/08/2020 11:00

Lots of names have become a little dull from overuse eg Emily, Amelia, Sophie, Oliver, Harry etc.

worstwitch18 · 16/08/2020 11:07

@Giganticshark

I like Louisa! I don't think 80s, I think 19th century.

Scubalubs87 · 16/08/2020 11:08

Neither of those girls names are common given how. Neither are top 100 and Louisa isn’t event close.

My husband is desperate to use Olivia which I do really like, but I teach and just can’t use it having taught so many 🙈.

NavyBerry · 16/08/2020 11:12

Emily and any alike, Olivia, Elizabeth, Eve/Ivy and similar. I would not give a name Mary either although it doesn't seem to be popular at all. It will just always be in my mind as a popular one.

Alexander for a boy
