Looking for a middle name for Sage. It's hard to find a name that flows well. Would love to hear what you think! Smile

The only Sage I know is a surname.

sunyla · 25/08/2020 17:21

@IndiaMay Exactly.🤦🏽‍♀️ I'm actually surprised to hear it's not common in the UK and that people find it strange considering it's a normal name here in Australia and also in the US.

I have a 3yo boy named Sage in the U.K. it’s not a really popular name but not ‘out there’. There were 11 female and 5 male baby Sage’s in the U.K. in 2018.
Personally I’d go for something more traditional for a middle name so if Sage is too out there for them then they’ve got an alternative. My son is Sage Peter.

I wouldn’t worry too much though just go for what you like, the names probably won’t be used much together

SageRosemary · 26/08/2020 22:44

OOOH, I know this one - Rosemary!

SageRosemary · 26/08/2020 22:45

You can use my name!

MaverickDanger · 26/08/2020 22:53

Funnily enough, the two Sages I know are both I. Australia. This board would go crazy if I listed some of the names that I know people have called their babies in Australia (Banksie, Navy and Ensli as a few!)

Sage Elizabeth immediately came to mind.

Boireannachlaidir · 26/08/2020 23:01

It makes me think of medieval times when every village had a 'sage' (wise person). I'm sorry but I think it's a particularly ugly sounding name compared to all the other (herb type) names out there.

sunyla · 27/08/2020 00:44

@MaverickDanger I know a Navy! I'm guessing UK stick to very traditional names?

@Fromthebirdsnest I love River but unfortunately I know so many Rivers now. Wren would definitely be on my list for future middle names.

Mmm, sort of. These are the most popular girls' names from 2019. Not as many Elizabeths, Katherines or Victorias as furriners might expect. Loads of parents want to give their babies, especially girls, unusual names so there's a lot of variety.
As pp said 5 boys and 11 girls called Sage in 2018.

Sage Renae

Biscusting · 27/08/2020 03:03

If you like river how about Sage Stream? Sage Sea?
Does the middle name have to be traditional British or a bit more more ‘out there’ from a UK standpoint?

lottiegarbanzo · 27/08/2020 20:39

Seriously though, what about Blossom? Kind of goes but kind of different and more feminine.

namenerd · 27/08/2020 23:16
