Looking for a middle name for Sage. It's hard to find a name that flows well. Would love to hear what you think! Smile

( I keep thinking corona)
Sage Corona

orangenasturtium · 14/08/2020 20:53

There were only 5 babies called Sage in the UK in 2018 and they were all boys, according to the ONS. Given that it is the name of the government committee advising on coronavirus, as was explained earlier, I doubt very much there will be any in 2020. Sorry @sunyla, this is pretty UK-centric site so you can see why it sounds a strange choice to many of us Smile

@orangenasturtium Understandable, thank you for your polite response.
@Viviennemary It's a pretty common name. 🤷🏽‍♀️
Really? I am in my 50's and have lived in two countries and have 3 dc.

I have never heard of anyone being called Sage.

They’re a brand name of some kitchen appliances, Heston Blumenthal I think, nice appliances. Not a name for a baby.

lovelychops · 14/08/2020 22:42

As is often the case on the baby name pages - you will be told your child will be mercilessly teased. But seriously kids the same age as your kid won't know all the 'jokes' they'll hear their parents 'hilarious' comments and repeat them...

Tillygetsit · 14/08/2020 23:20

Please ignore all the silly Little Englander comments. We're not all so blinkered I promise. Sage Juliet sounds lovely.

sunsalutations · 14/08/2020 23:28

Just bought some wallpaper called sage maidenhair 😂 Seriously, it's not a good name

cyantist · 14/08/2020 23:49

I'm in the UK and I know a Sage. I think it's nice name but think it needs a non-nature related middle name. A plant name, followed by another plant name might be a bit much.

Something classic like Elizabeth/Eliza, Jessica or Charlotte go well

IncrediblySadToo · 14/08/2020 23:50
@IncrediblySadToo I guess it's like Ivan to Australians. Popular in other countries but definitely not a favourite here.
I think it's even worse than Ivan because being born in 2020 is going to be tough enough. Having a name that makes millions remember Covid, just doesn't seem like the best move to me.

Cheerfullygo4 · 14/08/2020 23:59

Sage Willow

ozymandiusking · 15/08/2020 00:14

Pork!

SenorPeabodyEsq · 15/08/2020 00:23

I love the name Sage. The only person I know with the name is a woman in her 50s who started an amazing school, so I have positive associations with it.

I like classic middle names like Sage Elizabeth or Sage Juliette. I don't think you want another noun or plant name, eg Sage Willow.

Miljea · 15/08/2020 00:31

Hmm... 'amazing school'. Do you mean 'alternative'?

My DC were both born in Queensland and we lived there during their preschool years. I was 'taken aback' by the naming culture among my new mums group. But obviously I was cool, being a Brit forriner.

Sage doesn't 'run' in Britain. But that would have been 100% okay in my Queensland group.

It has been my experience that 'out there' names work in two contexts. Multi cultural inner city areas and named Public Schools.

In between, people will be 🧐

CoffeeAndEnnui · 15/08/2020 00:50

Sage Sloane.

Neither are names I would expect to hear often here (England) but in the context you've described, and with a longer surname, it could work.

sunyla · 15/08/2020 03:43

@Tillygetsit Thank you.

@cyantist I agree, thank you.

@IncrediblySadToo No one in Australia would have this association though. Only in the UK. It's like how other countries aren't likely to make the association of Ivan with Ivan Milat but in Australia it's the first thing most would think of.

@SenorPeabodyEsq Definitely leaning towards Juliette. Thank you. Smile
