I have a Juno and an Annie (Anoushka on the BC) and expecting another girl.

Really struggling!

DH has suggested Petra. And I think I like it.

But it feels very unusual, so interested to hear opinions.

What do you think??

I like it! Goes well with Juno.

justoverthehorizon · 13/08/2020 21:48

Sorry sounds like a dogs name...but just showing my age

lottiegarbanzo · 13/08/2020 21:50

I like it, it's distinctive, delicate yet strong and hard to mispronounce.

I think of Petra Kelly, who was quite inspirational.

Margo34 · 13/08/2020 21:52

Lovely unusual name, reminds me of this children's book encouraging self belief and imagination: www.amazon.co.uk/Petra-Marianna-Coppo/dp/050065140X?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

'Petra is a little rock who believes she is a mighty mountain . . . until a dog fetches her for its owner, and she is tossed into a bird's nest. A mountain? No, Petra is now an egg! An egg of the world in a world of possibility. Until she's flung into a pond, and becomes an amazing island . . . and, eventually, a little girl's pet rock. What will she be tomorrow? Who knows? But she's a rock, and this is how she rolls!'

I like the name personally.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 13/08/2020 21:53

I used to live this name - at university I knew a Petra named for the ancient city, and it seemed exotic and timeless.
Then I moved to Germany and discovered that literally every second 1970s born woman is called either Petra or Tanja. Petra is just the female form of Peter and a similar type of name. It's essentially the Germanic Claire.

DoTheMaccaroni · 13/08/2020 21:53

Such a beautiful name! I’ve always loved it Smile And I think the link to one of the 7 wonders in Petra, Jordan is a nice association too!

Scarby9 · 13/08/2020 21:54

Lovely name, although to my generation it will always be the Blue Peter dog... i have a signed photo!

APurpleSquirrel · 13/08/2020 21:55

Lovely name - makes me think of one of the Fossil Sisters in Ballet Shoes - I loved that book as a child.

blacktop · 13/08/2020 21:55

There was a Petra in my glass but she got called petri (dish)

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2020 21:56

It will always be the Blue Peter dog to me.

HillyJilly · 13/08/2020 21:57

Some very weird things said on this thread.
I like it.

lottiegarbanzo · 13/08/2020 22:01

The Ballet Shoes one was Petrova, wasn't she?

HoratioNightboy · 13/08/2020 22:02

hard to mispronounce

Not so sure about that; I assumed it was PETT-ra till I met a PEE-tra. She is the only Petra I have ever met though so now I have no idea what the standard pronunciation is.

ZebraKid71 · 13/08/2020 22:02

I absolutely love it!

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 13/08/2020 22:02

Ballet Shoes is definitely Petrova not Petra.

Fozzleyplum · 13/08/2020 22:02

I like it, but I like Peta even more.

solarsystem · 13/08/2020 22:04

How about Petrina?

circumventgatekeeper · 13/08/2020 22:06

My dad favourite place and the name he wanted for me until my sister vetoed it.
