Summer/Nautical Inspired Names

I absolutely adore everything nautical and just love the warm summer weather.
Today while soaking up the lovely warm weather the UK is currently experiencing, I got thinking about some names.
The only one I came up with for a girl is Summer.

Could you please throw me some nautical/summer names for boys and girls?

Just as an aside, what are your views on naming a child after a parents love? Good idea or not?

Many thanks.

There are masses of names amongst the Oceanids, the sea-nymphs of Greek mythology. I like Ida, Doris, Clio, Ianthe and Xanthe.

Also maybe a bit off track and not a direct connection but what about olive for a nautical name? As in Popeye’s girlfriend.

PoodleMoth · 08/08/2020 07:45

Soleil

summerloving2506 · 08/08/2020 07:59

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.
Has given me a lot to think about.

Marina - I go through phases of liking and disliking this. Not sure if I could use.
Summer - I adore this but just can't imagine it on a 30/40 year old.
Soleil - I like the meaning of the name, there's just something about french names. I hated french at school and dropped it as soon as I could. I'm not sure I'd want to give my child a french name..

@aprilfools19 Olive is a lovely suggestion actually. I do love Olive's and has a Mediterranean feel about it.

Both Dylan and Sol seem lovely ideas for a boy. Would Sol be strong and professional enough for an adult?

There are a few suggestions of Sailor. I absolutely adore this. Heard a child with this name on holiday many years ago. BUT I don't think it would be brave enough to use in real life.

How about 'Ellen' after Ellen MacArthur?

I’ve never seen a thread so much my style @summerloving2506
I have DD named Harbor, and a DS with an equally unique, surf inspired name which I won’t share as the two together is very outing!

Other names we considered and didn’t use but are on the list for DC3 in the future:
Sailor
Eden
Reef
Atlas
Zephyr

Not everyone’s cup of tea to go for unusual names but we are both teachers so found it very difficult not associating names with children we have met, and seeing the trends of 5 Harry’s and Isabella’s in the same class.

CoffeeRunner · 08/08/2020 23:01

Well thank god I didn’t follow your thinking as my passion is Pokemon. Anyway.

How about (for a boy):

Drake (Sir Francis Drake)
Loch
River
Ocean
August

For a girl:

Sunny
Luna
Sailor
Summer
Rose

BikeRunSki · 08/08/2020 23:07

I know a Mailn, so called because he’s father and grandfather used to sail at Malin Head.

Graymare · 08/08/2020 23:11

Coral
Meriel
Maris

Boy:
Francis (Drake or Chichester), could be known as Frankie
