What names do you LOVE but would never use?

(And I don't mean you wouldn't use because there are close family members etc who have the name. I mean more that you absolutely love, but don't have the balls to use)

Mine is....

Demetrious.

I have known a few in my time and absolutely love the name, but not sure I could do it...

I love the name Cecily but I just can’t get past the meaning. Also love Rafferty but would only suit a very certain type of person.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 29/07/2020 23:40

DD1 name has been mentioned on here at least twice! Also both my DD middle names

I named my children what I wanted so zero regrets but DH did veto Zebediah for DS. He really suits his actual name but he would also have been a good Zeb!

JamesArthursEyelashes · 29/07/2020 23:44

Lots of Italian boys names because I’m not Italian. 🤣 They just sound so nice but maybe not so nice for a boy at your average secondary comprehensive school in England. 😬

willowtree81 · 29/07/2020 23:46

Silas, Casper, Cassius, Lucien, Jeremiah and Emanuel for boys. Had girls! Also wouldn't probably have been brave enough. Also like Cosmo.

Hope I'll have a big gang of dogs with unusual names when I'm older 😁

My fantasy children are called Archimedes and Sappho. My actual children have much more conventional names ...

Flora our surname starts Fl

Aida well I would use it but dh was firm no

Horatio as Aida

Holger and Søren I love both but I know the proper pronunciation and it simply will never work in English. (Also the names of my grandfathers)

I love Rafferty so much but know if we had children my DP will never agree! Same with Wilf, loved it before Boris stole it.

LilaButterfly · 30/07/2020 19:22

Lilith, although at the moment I think it would suit DD quite nicely Wink

Sweetsweetisthenight · 30/07/2020 19:42

Proserpine the Roman version of Persephone

MsTSwift · 30/07/2020 19:45

Augusta. Literally everyone hates it but I like it. Also Alberta. Best not having anymore kids 😁

HeronLanyon · 30/07/2020 20:13

I really like Augusta ! I suppose it’s a shame it is also a city (not so fond of place names). I also quite like Agatha p- don’t think I’ve ever known one nor likely to which seems a shame somehow.

Magnus, Shadrach...

SisterCellophane · 01/08/2020 20:38

Oh and Conrad. I loved it as a child when I discovered it as the name of a character in the retrospectively disturbing fairytale The Goose Girl, which I had a beautiful illustrated copy of...but as an adult it seems to be thought of as a stereotypical slimy posh wanker's name

Shannith · 01/08/2020 20:42

Persephone. Well swerved DD.

Shannith · 01/08/2020 20:44

Although I've just noticed DD's perfectly normal (to me) name on here, so maybe sorry DD instead.
