Amity

I have a real soft spot for virtue-type names but I feel like this treads a nice line between the really popular normalised ones (Felicity, Verity, Constance, Faith etc) and full-on Puritan (Relief, Comfort, Experience...)

It's not that out-there is it?

I don’t like it I’m afraid - plus the Amityville Horror immediately springs to mind 😬

Laaalaaaa · 28/07/2020 16:11

Reminds me of a prawn fishing boat.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 28/07/2020 16:14

Ville Horror

Bitchinkitchen · 28/07/2020 16:14

Amityville Horror here too. Or the boring pushover faction from the Divergent series.

user1495884620 · 28/07/2020 16:18

To me, Amity is the place where Jaws was set. I am old though!

riotlady · 28/07/2020 16:19

Aren’t they the miserable faction in Divergent?

Lucienandjean · 28/07/2020 16:21

I don't like Amity much. It's the Amityville Horror connotation, I think.

If you like virtue names, have you thought about:

Charity
Clemency
Prudence
Aletheia (which means truth)
Joy
Hope
Grace
Vera

Tinkerbellone · 28/07/2020 16:22

I straight away thought of that horror film. Sorry OP

Whatthebloodyell · 28/07/2020 16:23

I think it’s cute!

MrsBungle · 28/07/2020 16:24

I instantly think Amityville Horror and Jaws. I don’t find it a very pleasant name.

ladycarlotta · 28/07/2020 16:32

omg everyone thinks of the horror film! Or Jaws. Maybe I don't have normal reference points haha.

DoTheMaccaroni · 28/07/2020 17:04

Never seen Jaws or Amityville horror but those are the two things I thought of also 🤣

jeremypaxo · 28/07/2020 17:05

I know an Amity and she is absolutely lovely. I really like it as a name. I've never heard of Amityville or whatever pp have mentioned Confused

Hungrypuffin · 28/07/2020 17:08

Immediately made me think of Jaws!

TinySleepThief · 28/07/2020 17:09

Unfortunately I think 99% of people would think of those 2 films if you introduced them to a child called Amity. I certainly did and I've not seen either film. They might be too polite to mention it to your face but it would be pretty much the first thing they thought of.
Gotthetshirt23 · 28/07/2020 17:15

Amity Island
Amityville horror

Sorry

RyanBergarasTeeth · 28/07/2020 17:17

First thought was amityville horror here too sorry.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/07/2020 18:44

Well it’s on my list for this baby I’ve no intentions of having Grin.

Peachbubble · 28/07/2020 19:52

I know an Amity. No-one mentions Jaws or Amityville, but then her peer group is young. Pretty name, she's the only one I know.

Spied · 28/07/2020 19:55

As a horror fan it doesn't put me offGrin
I really like it.

Picklypickles · 28/07/2020 19:59

Yep my first thought was Amityville Horror too!

Pumpkin314 · 28/07/2020 20:05

Yup, jaws. It does sound nice though if I didn't have that association.

MonaChopsis · 28/07/2020 20:20

My favourite virtue name is Ruth (compassion) which is classic but not popular nowadays

XiCi · 28/07/2020 20:21

Immediately thought of the horror film, then jaws.
Ugly sounding name
