Penny or Edie?

Penelope not an option. Love Edith too but would call her Edie so figure it should be Edie if we are going for that, plus not keen on Edith with chosen middle (family) name Elizabeth. Any thoughts/other suggestions most welcome. Thanks.

Personally I prefer full names so the kid has a choice / has a more grown up name for when they're an adult.

With that in mind I'd go for Edith shortened for Edie.

What about Elizabeth Edith which sounds slightly better than Edith Elizabeth

Devlesko · 20/07/2020 16:03

Well Penny will have people wanting to use the formal Penelope and Edie will be Edith.
I'd do this if the name wasn't written down as think it presumptuous to shorten it.

halcyondays · 20/07/2020 16:08

No, if she’s always called Penny, people will call her that surely. Many names are just given as short forms now.

halcyondays · 20/07/2020 16:09

Penny is very nice, not keen on Edie.

Lavenderblues · 20/07/2020 16:12

I love Penelope. Not so keen on Pen or Penny.

Edith sounds harsh. Edie looks like a short form of Edward or Edwin. I really dislike it.

20viona · 20/07/2020 16:13

I know 6 Edies and no penny's.

Aquamarine1029 · 20/07/2020 16:15

I really, really dislike both of them. Sorry.

Lavenderblues · 20/07/2020 16:17

Both very nicknamey. She may end up as Pen or Ed?!

riotlady · 20/07/2020 16:17

I think Edie works better as a stand-alone name than Penny

Whenwillow · 20/07/2020 16:19

I like both but I'd choose Penny I think.

Whatsyourflava · 20/07/2020 16:47

Lovely names - love both of them
How about Jemima

MikeUniformMike · 20/07/2020 17:35

Of the two, Penny, but I'd probably put Penelope on the bc.
Edie is ok but Edith is frumpy and Eden is chavvy.

daisypond · 20/07/2020 18:07

Neither is a standalone name. Penny, if you really must. Edie is particularly nothingy. I would definitely put the full name on the BC.

daisypond · 20/07/2020 18:09

Just seen that you’ve said Penelope is not an option, but Edith might be. In which case, Edith.

Peachbubble · 20/07/2020 18:09

Edie, not keen on Penny at all

123Dancewithme · 20/07/2020 19:27

I only like them if they’re short for Penelope and Edith. I think Edith Elizabeth sounds fine!

Flappingflamingo · 20/07/2020 19:38

I prefer penny elizabeth

Lavenderblues · 20/07/2020 19:40

Edie will probably be mispronounced as Ed-ie rather than Eedie.

Sunnydayshereatlast · 20/07/2020 19:45

Do you like watching Balmory op??

Sunnydayshereatlast · 20/07/2020 19:45

Balamory even!!

Wowcherarestalkingme · 20/07/2020 19:48

Really like Penny. I don’t see it as a shortened version of Penelope anymore, not with so many shortened names being on birth certificates

Theforest · 20/07/2020 19:56

I prefer Penny. Edie is getting too popular. I know quite a few

Pippilangstrumpfie · 20/07/2020 20:39

I like Penelope.

But a penny is a coin. Not a fan personally.

Edith sounds harsh.

Thanks for your feedback, any other suggestions? X

Why does someone always mention Jemima, it’s awful!

Anyway, both are nice names op, I’d go for Penny.
