Opinions on Hallie

Opinions on the name Hallie please!

I think it's a really nice name and I like that it could be shortened to Hal (although I think I'd let my child choose their own NN rather than planning one).
My OH loves it, but I have a few concerns...

  • Spelling: I know it can also be spelled Halle but don't love this spelling as I feel people wouldn't pronounce the "ee" at the end.
  • Pronunciation - is it obvious that is should be "Hal-ee"? (I've read somewhere about people mispronouncing it Hailey - which I don't love!)
  • Is it too much of a nickname?
  • Is it becoming too popular?

Thankkkks! Smile

What about Halley?
Like the comet. I like the name and would never pronounce it Hailey but I’m sure there are some who would.

AllHellBreaksLoose · 18/07/2020 16:22

I know 4 Hallie's under 2, very popular at the moment x

LilacSloth · 18/07/2020 16:23

Love it. I think the spelling Hallie makes it obvious how it should be pronounced.

alexdgr8 · 18/07/2020 16:26

no. just no. sounds like a sister to chardonnay.

prettygreenteacup · 18/07/2020 16:39

I have a Hallie! She gets called Hals by us a lot :) we've had no issues with people spelling or pronouncing her name.

Yes of course.

Otherwise it would be spelled Hailey.

octoberfarm · 18/07/2020 18:40

I love it! Beautiful name.

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/07/2020 19:13

Couldn’t disagree with this more! Totally different style names in my opinion.

I like it! I know a baby who is called this, spelt Hallie. Her mum almost had a change of heart though as someone mispronounced it Hayley. To me it’s obvious that it’s Hal-ee though!

Pegaroo · 18/07/2020 19:19

I think Hallie is common enough that the majority of people will pronounce it properly.

I know one aged 4 and one aged 6.

BobFleming · 18/07/2020 19:24

sounds like a sister to chardonnay.

This, exactly.

BertieBotts · 18/07/2020 19:34

I initially misread it and thought it was Hailie - you might get this. But once you see it's an l and not an i it's completely clear. It's just because l and i are very similar looking letters.

Saucery · 18/07/2020 19:37

I like it. Prefer Halley spelling but the sound of it is lovely. I do know a littl girl called Halle though who is great, so positive association for me.

KatnissMellark · 18/07/2020 19:37

Hallie is nice enough but I prefer Callie (short for Callinda or Callista).

BertieBotts · 18/07/2020 19:58

I think they Halley spelling avoids the Hailie misread - it's the i in ie, it sort of jumps around and inserts itself before the l.

But I might be the only one Blush in which case ignore me!

Thanks for your replies! I do love it and glad most people do too. 😍
I think sometimes it's so easy to overthink names, spellings etc!

I don't get the Chardonnay comparison though? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

I like Halle/Hallie 😁 It was actually on my girls names but I have two boys...

user1493494961 · 18/07/2020 21:16

I would also put it in the Chardonnay bracket.

123Dancewithme · 18/07/2020 23:13

My cousin has a Hallie. I like it, and it’s not a Chardonnay type of name Grin

MrsGilly1 · 19/07/2020 06:03

I prefer the name Callie X

Magicbabywaves · 19/07/2020 07:04
