Opinions on Hallie

Opinions on the name Hallie please!

I think it's a really nice name and I like that it could be shortened to Hal (although I think I'd let my child choose their own NN rather than planning one).
My OH loves it, but I have a few concerns...

  • Spelling: I know it can also be spelled Halle but don't love this spelling as I feel people wouldn't pronounce the "ee" at the end.
  • Pronunciation - is it obvious that is should be "Hal-ee"? (I've read somewhere about people mispronouncing it Hailey - which I don't love!)
  • Is it too much of a nickname?
  • Is it becoming too popular?

Thankkkks! Smile

I like Halley after the comet but to be honest when I was at school it was ridiculous all the scary girls who smoked 20 a day at 13 were called Hailey so it's just skirting a bit too close to that sail for me. So Im on the fence I think.

Hallie can be a shortening for Harriet if that takes your fancy.

Hallie shortened from Harriet? You mean Halliet Grin

It's ok. Too often paired with 'Mae' around here, which I can't be doing with.
'Hal' is usually a boy's name; diminutive of 'Henry'.

Interesting. Thanks for the link.
