Willa?

What do you think of this girls name?
Willow was one of my favourite names but it's getting too common where I live.
I heard Willa for the first time from my MIL - It's a big bonus that she likes it.
It has a totally different vibe to Willow, I know. But I liked it instantly.

What do you think?

Sounds very unattractive sorry

SickOfNorthernExile · 17/07/2020 18:17

Also the Willow I know is in her teens - I don’t know any babies named either Willa or Willow- so I wouldn’t be worried about either being over-popular? (Or William for that matter)?

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 17/07/2020 18:21

I don’t like it sorry.

Cynara · 17/07/2020 18:28

Hideous, sorry. Ugly sound and ugly look when written. I'm not keen on Willow either, although I suppose that's more recognisable as a name.

daisypond · 17/07/2020 18:29

I like it a lot. A million times classier than Willow. It’s an old name, maybe from Wilhelmina. Scottish, I think. And of course there’s the 19th-20th-century author Willa Cather.

So it seems to be pretty Marmite then! Thank you all for taking the time. The accent thing is not really a problem to me, it's a nice sounding name where I live. I also don't think that it's going to be prone to teasing more than any other name - I mean you could pick on any if you tried hard enough (William? Will? They've survived). Anyway, I still love it and it's still on my list! :)

Keep it on the list! Its lovely, we have a Willow but love Willa just as much.

NellieandRufus · 21/07/2020 08:11

Awful

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 21/07/2020 08:16

I prefer Willow tbh...

Willowmartha1 · 21/07/2020 08:22

@danniiaddy in your opinion.

DoTheMaccaroni · 21/07/2020 09:41

I love it! It does seem to be a marmite name on here but I’ve noticed it being mentioned more and more and people seem to be warming to it!

I met a beautiful tall girl named Willa a few years ago and I’ve loved it ever since!

I think Willow and Willa do have a similar (good) vibe personally Smile

DuchessAnnogovia · 21/07/2020 09:49

I'm sorry, the first thing I thought of was Willy! I can see merciless teasing all through school.... Willow is lovely though IMO.

Whatsyourflava · 21/07/2020 10:06

I know a little Willa!! She loves her name. I really really love the name - hope to use it one day!

Whatsyourflava · 21/07/2020 10:08

A few years back I remember people used to go mad on mumsnet about the name Ralph meaning Penis in a Judy bloom book and "why would you do that to a child" ... Ralph is a top 100 name now.
Similarly apparently Percy means penis and many on here say "don't put your child through it" yet Percy is now climbing the charts with pace! Not surprised , it's a great name!

I love the name Willa!

BarbaraGordon · 21/07/2020 18:19

BakingBunty · 23/07/2020 20:55

My DD's middle name is Willa. Sometimes wish we had used it as a first name but knew a family with a Willa. Gorgeous name, go for it!

Lucindainthesky · 23/07/2020 21:08

DD has a doll that came with the name Willa. Think it's ridiculous and always assumed it was American or made up.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/07/2020 21:53

Well, congratulations on your new arrival, Sophie (Turner)! Grin

Buzz22 · 28/07/2020 07:40

@CurlyhairedAssassin I came on here to say the same thing! Haha congrats Sophie Turner!

Lavenderblues · 28/07/2020 08:12

I don't like it at all.
