Willa?

What do you think of this girls name?
Willow was one of my favourite names but it's getting too common where I live.
I heard Willa for the first time from my MIL - It's a big bonus that she likes it.
It has a totally different vibe to Willow, I know. But I liked it instantly.

What do you think?

I don’t like it at all.

Keyperfect · 17/07/2020 07:48

I really dislike it, sorry. As others have said, it sounds like a lazy pronunciation of Willow (which is a lovely name).

Skyliner001 · 17/07/2020 07:50

Awful

Choccorocco · 17/07/2020 07:51

No

babynamelover · 17/07/2020 07:53

I love it. I taught one a few years ago she had a big sister Ruby.
I also like Nella which has a similar feel.

joyjester · 17/07/2020 07:54

There's a name ripe for piss taking at school. Sorry it's awful.

LaGoulueRevenue · 17/07/2020 08:04

It sounds like 'willy' in some regional accents.

newmum332 · 17/07/2020 08:29

Not keen. It reminds me of someone I know who decided to call their child Milla.
It sounds very chavvy when said aloud in my opinion.

HowFastIsTooFast · 17/07/2020 08:36

I hate to say that I don't like it, but perhaps because I'm Northern so to me it sounds like someone is just dropping the end of 'willow' in the same way can pronounce window as 'winda'.

Bouledeneige · 17/07/2020 09:02

I love it. But I think silly little boys at school might have a field day with it.

TimeWastingButFun · 17/07/2020 09:06

Nooo she'll be called Willy at school

TenThousandSpoons · 17/07/2020 09:08

Prefer Willow.

Getitdonesharpish · 17/07/2020 09:11

My fave girls name but DP said no. I can’t see why it is any more prone to piss taking than William which is really common.

serialreturner · 17/07/2020 09:11

I love Willa Cather and that’s the first thing that came to mind.

Second thing was willy. Sorry.

Sportsnight · 17/07/2020 10:25

Lovely name. It was on my list for both our dds, but my OH preferred more classic names so I lost out. I like Willow too.

It’s no more like willy than William or Will, and that doesn’t put people off.

countdowntofriday · 17/07/2020 10:37

Reminds me of the drag queen from Ru Paul's Drag Race- which is no necessarily a bad thing!

Sunnydayshereatlast · 17/07/2020 10:47

Willa or won'ta?

emmathedilemma · 17/07/2020 10:53

It seems to be one that divides the audience! I'm in the hate camp I'm afraid. It's just ugly.

sweetnosugar · 17/07/2020 10:55

I’m not keen, I do like Willow though.
Winnie is lovely too! Similar feel.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 17/07/2020 12:34

Seriously awful, for all the reasons stated above.

WorriedMummy2020 · 17/07/2020 12:44

Just no....

VenusClapTrap · 17/07/2020 18:03

Prefer Willow.

SickOfNorthernExile · 17/07/2020 18:09

I know a Willa - it really suits her. She’s very cool. She’s also a 29 year old, very confident professional woman, who has never once complained that she was bullied as a child about her name. So if she was, it hasn’t affected her.

I also know a Willow, who doesn’t suit her name so much, but she’s still little so might grow into it... and a young guy in his 20s who is William but goes by Willy and has since he was a little boy.
Again, he doesn’t seem traumatised. Could choose to go by William if he wanted and doesn’t, so...

I think if you like the name, go for it.

LilacSloth · 17/07/2020 18:09

Sorry - really don't like it.

userabcname · 17/07/2020 18:14

I don't like it at all.
